Right now it's sort of a skeleton of what's to come, but the 82-square-foot video screen and the big rectangular bar are shaping up nicely. Upstairs the small craft bar Detention is also starting to come together, although it probably won't be ready for the opening later this month.
Out back one can start to see what Mislinski's bar-cinema will entail - think movie nights and cocktails leaning toward the tropical side of things - and there's even a small chocolate shop called The Chocolate Fox coming in.
All in all, the project aims to play up themes that reach back to childhood memories, and Mislinski is ever narrowing and sharpening the concept as it evolves. He's also weaving in clever techie details like video screens that show through the mirror in the women's restroom and light controls that change the hues of the walls. The plans also call for bringing in live music, DJs and video artists who can make the most of the place's enormous audio-visual capacities.
Add to that some unique food offerings like gourmet popcorn, nuts, olives and other small plates; a rooftop dining area being modeled in a treehouse theme; and a slew of other unique touches like swing decorations dangling from the ceiling, and you have Playground.
You can get on the list for the grand opening over here.

The good news is that the vanilla porter is both unique and delicious. Slightly fizzy, almost chocolatey, with just a hint of cream soda or something like that. They're going to start selling growlers of it this Wednesday when the place kicks of its regular tasting house. That is all.

Elvis Costello. I've purchased your multiple reissues. I've paid not-cheap ticket prices to see you live. I've purchased your various vanity projects and shelved them right next to your albums that I actually enjoy. I thought I'd never see a day where I was more disappointed in you than when you married soft-jazz hack Diana Krall, but our relationship has hit a new low [bold added for emphasis]:
Casey Nicholaw, who co-directed The Book of Mormon as well as the stage version of Elf, is in talks to direct the Austin Powers musical being developed by Mike Myers and Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures.Colin Callender, the former HBO Films president whose run included the acclaimed Band of Brothers and Angels in America, and partner Sonia Friedman are producing the musical, which will be set to the music of Burt Bacharach and Elvis Costello.
Sure, the Austin Powers musical might still happen without the music of Costello and Bacharach, but that doesn't mean you're actually obligated to participate. The world does not need to hear an all-singing/all-dancing version of a movie franchise based on fart jokes and bad teeth. Why, Elvis? Why?

Jerry Sandusky clearly has an odd sense of how to hire a lawyer already, considering he hired Joe Amendola, a guy who impregnated a teenage girl that was one of his clients, but Amendola keeps digging deeper into a well of stupidity:
The choicest moment: At one point, Amendola discussed the possibility that Mike McQueary witnessed a rape, told Joe Paterno and two university administrators, and no one did anything except tell Sandusky to stay out of the locker room with kids. To anyone who believes that version of events, Amendola said, "I suggest you dial 1-800-REALITY." We did. Here's what we got:"Hey guys, welcome to the hottest place for triple-X action. Get ready for bulging, bursting pleasure with horny gay, bi, and bi-curious studs. Just 99 cents per minute."
No judgment on any one who has called 1-800-REALITY in the past or plans to in the future, but perhaps Amendola might want to work on his snappy comebacks. Or maybe just shut up and stick to defending his client.

It would appear the Burger King by my house no longer sells Chicken Fries, so I have no reason to go there, but if I could be promised unicorns and DJ's spinning giant hamburgers as records like they apparently have at the Russian locations, I could probably be convinced to stop by.

As part of Arizona's celebration of its hundredth birthday in 2012, there's a wide array of merchandise to be purchased, most of which will likely end up in the back of a closet somewhere once the purchaser realizes they bought a sweatshirt for a state's centennial and that wearing such an item would just be weird.
However, it probably should surprise absolutely no one that among the Arizona Centennial infant bodysuits, coffee mugs, lapel pins, and limited edition cans of Kronik Energy Drink (wait, what?), Arizona will also be celebrating 100 years with a very expensive gun:
Limited Edition Firearm. The detailed images intricately engraved and finished on this piece with 24-karat gold, antique gold, and shiny nickel on a black background, make this a truly spectacular collector’s firearm. The Model 92 lever action rifle was chosen as the ‘canvas’ because of its easily recognizable style as well as a layout that allows the room required to include the appropriate images. The imagery engraved on the firearm includes the Grand Canyon, the Roosevelt Dam, (completed in 1911 and originally known as “Salt River Dam #1”), the Arizona State Capitol Museum — and more.
Each numbered rifle includes a certificate of authenticity and custom oak display case. $2,995.
Just lay off the limited edition Kronik Energy Drink while handling your Limited Edition Firearm, I suppose.

No official confirmation from the TCC itself, but according to the internets, former child star turned big time rapper Drake is coming to the TCC Arena as part of his Club Paradise Tour with A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar on March 4th. Tough break, Phoenix! No word on when tickets will be on sale yet, but we'll update this post with more information as we get it.
Maybe this woman, who recently got a giant forehead tattoo celebrating Drake's success, will be there:

So, lately, i've been asked where I've gotten these rope and hook bracelets I've been wearing for the past several months.

This is what's trendy, men. Miansai's bracelets have been a constant on pages of several style magazines like GQ and, ladies, you can see Rihana sporting a cuff in her recent video.
They recently relaunched their website to be more functional and to give it an aesthetic that does better justice to the chic designs Saiger creates.
Miansai was featured on People.com as a Hollywood-inspired gift idea.

I don't want to wait until March to see Jiro Dreams Of Sushi, a documentary about Jiro Ono, generally considered the world's best sushi chef, who works at a sushi bar with ten seats in a Tokyo subway station. I want to see it now and then I want to eat everything on the screen. Yet, I will probably see Jiro Dreams Of Sushi on DVD at some point in my living room, likely while eating Safeway brand tortilla chips. This is the deep injustice of my life.
