My goal in life was to get enough wealth stacked up to buy myself a Maybach and roll around Tucson like the blogging Diddy Dirty Money of the Old Pueblo, but I guess that's not going to happen now. I really just weep for the rappers who have to try to figure out how to work Lamborghini in to their raps as a brand replacement (at least two tracks on Jay Z's Black Album reference the brand, for example). Rick Ross has to rename his label, for pete's sake. Times really are tough:

Ending almost a decade of losses, Daimler is shutting down its super-luxury Maybach brand. It would not make sense to develop a successor model," chairman Dieter Zetsche said to the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. "The coming S-Class is in such a way a superior vehicle that it can replace the Maybach."

Zetsche will be glad to wipe his hands of Maybach (pronounced MY-bock). It was one more embarrassment — like the money-losing Smart car and the failed Chrysler merger — left over from the reign of his grandiose predecessor, Juergen Schrempp. Maybach has been hanging around for years while Zetsche, who clearly had little respect for the brand and dismissed it as financially inconsequential, dealt with more pressing problems.

The Maybach epitaph will not be a not pretty one. It was a remarkably cynical effort by Daimler to use the halo of its Mercedes-Benz brand to justify prices of $350,000 to $1.4 million for an inferior automobile wrapped in a glitzy package. Maybach strived for a prestige that it tried to ground on price alone. The wealthy figured it out in a hurry and stayed away in droves. Appearances to the contrary sometimes notwithstanding, the top 0.0001% didn't accumulate all that money by being stupid.

The U.S. Census Bureau's latest numbers are pretty discouraging—here's some of them.

Apache County is by far the poorest in Arizona, with a whopping 34.5 percent poverty rate. That's third in the entire West region. Nearby Crowley County, Colo. takes second place with 34.7 percent. The most poverty-stricken Western county is Malheur County, Oreg. with 39.5 percent of people in poverty.

These numbers are across all ages, the Census says.

The most poverty stricken county in the entire country was Ziebach County, S.D., with 50.1 percent.

Check out how poverty is measured by the Census here, if you're interested. Just for an example, a family of four with two parents and two children are below the poverty threshold if they all together make LESS than $22,113 a year. That's income before taxes.

As mentioned in last week's Noshing Around, the second Tucson Food-Truck Roundup starts in a few hours. There will be a wide variety of street food ranging from Korean-Mexican fusion food to gourmet crepes; beer will be available; and they'll even be showing vintage sci-fi movies.

Some people pick the movies they see based on who's in them, who wrote them or who wrote them.

This is an advocation for seeing a film simply based on who did the music.

It should matter not whether you've read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, or if you're a fan of director David Fincher or have an ab crush on Daniel Craig. This film, which comes out Dec. 21, has original music from Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor coursing through nearly every scene.

With that kind of audial meditation, who cares what the movie is about.

Reznor and his longtime collaborator, Atticus Ross, somehow managed to create about 160 minutes' worth of music for a soundtrack, which has 39 songs and is being released Dec. 27 as a three-disc (or six LP, if you dig the vinyl) conglomeration.

Reznor and Ross, while NIN is on hiatus, have been making a name for themselves with original scores. Their music for The Social Network won both a Golden Globe and Oscar for its ability to help turn a movie about a Web site into a pretty interesting flick.

Included on the soundtrack are two cover songs, including a remake of Led Zeppelin's 'Immigrant Song' by Reznor and Yeah Yeah Yeahs signer Karen O.

While Loren Grigsby should probably be thankful that he didn't receive the maximum sentence of 65 years that he could have, the former Davis-Monthan airman who plead guilty to charges of distribution of marijuana, money laundering as part of distribution of marijuana and conspiracy to distribute marijuana learned that the military doesn't mess around with that sort of thing:

During the court-martial, the 23-year-old Airman pled guilty to all charges, providing the military judge with detailed facts concerning each offense. The facts revealed the member laundered over $147,000 as part of a cross-country marijuana distribution enterprise. The member would ship marijuana through the United States Postal Service to Georgia from Arizona in return for large cash deposits spread out over multiple bank accounts. This criminal activity, which occurred from March 2010 to June 2010, was uncovered as part of a large investigation which included the combined efforts of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, the Tucson Police Department, the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency, the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Internal Revenue Service. During the investigation, law enforcement agencies seized over 26 pounds of marijuana.

After three days of testimony, a jury of officers and enlisted members sentenced Senior Airman Grigsby to a Dishonorable Discharge, to serve 17 years in confinement, to be reduced to the grade of E-1, and to forfeit all pay and allowances. The maximum sentence in the case was to receive a Dishonorable Discharge, to serve 65 years in confinement, to be reduced to the grade of E-1, and to forfeit all pay and allowances.

We've been getting reports that the food at the brand new Parisian Cafe at 1012 E. Sixth St. is very good. We haven't been down to check it out yet, but we hear the quiche and croissants are made from scratch and that the breakfasts are truly something else.

Just so I'm understanding the point that Dan Gainor from Media Research Center tried to make on Fox Business, Disney, the world's largest media company, is actually an secret agent of anti-corporate propaganda brainwashing the children because the bad guy in The Muppets is a wild caricature of a Texas oil man and in Cars 2, there's a bad guy who sells a fake gas substitute. Sure, it's essentially one step away from Occupy Wall Street.

Fair warning: after a few minutes, this clip descends into nonsense where the two conservative loudmouths crack jokes about Barney Frank and how dumb poor people are and the token liberal seems bewildered and isn't really helping her own cause.
