This has been going on for a while now, but it's still worth noting: Something Sweet Dessert Lounge at 5319 E. Speedway Blvd. now serves lunch, and there's even deviled eggs!

Long a desserts-only destination, Something Sweet spread its wings with offerings other than desserts after it's near-death experience last year and has been trucking along ever since. In my book, the fact that they stayed open was the feel-good food story of 2011 and I feel very fortunate that Something Sweet ended up sticking around.

While the Southern Arizona chapter is somewhat unaffected (since they haven't made grants to Planned Parenthood), the national board of directors for Komen Race for the Cure has apologized for its costly PR move earlier this week and will continue to fund grants made to Planned Parenthood:

We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives.

The events of this week have been deeply unsettling for our supporters, partners and friends and all of us at Susan G. Komen. We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood. They were not.

Our original desire was to fulfill our fiduciary duty to our donors by not funding grant applications made by organizations under investigation. We will amend the criteria to make clear that disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political. That is what is right and fair.

Mike Ness and company returned to Tucson to perform their mix of punk, rockabilly and blues at the Rialto Theatre.

I promise that I didn't create this Tumblr collecting "not racist, just asking" references on Twitter to White History Month, but I appreciate that it exists.

I might just set up a Twitter feed that auto-responds to all these clowns that there isn't a White History Month because in most American schools, every month is focused on "white" history. It's like when my kids complain that there isn't a Children's Day to go with Mother's and Father's Days. I have to hold back from yelling that EVERY DAMN DAY IS KID'S DAY. Sigh.

I humbly submit the following description from the Facebook page of the new bar Trainwreck Saloon, which opens Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 213 N. Fourth Ave., the north end of the Maloney's building:

[Editor's note: They can't seem to decide on whether "Train Wreck" is one word or two, although since there's already a small chain of "Train Wreck Saloon's" in Missouri, I think the single word version might win out.]

The girls at Train Wreck are hot, empowered and always out to have a good time - they are more likely to go hogging then to go clubbing and their jeans are worn out because they wear them not because they bought them that way.

Train Wreck guests don't drink martini's - they drink beer and bourbon; the stuff they were raised on and the same stuff they can put in their cooler for the races or when they are fishing. No need for the good stuff; the cheap stuff does the job - as long as a hot girl is pouring it.

I never anticipated the opening of a country bar on Fourth Avenue and it should be a blast to see how this all pans out. And, while we're on the subject, is "hogging" riding a motorcycle, wrestling pigs or something so nefarious that there's a secret code word for it?

Bad news for Project White House candidates: A new Rasmussen poll shows Mitt Romney is running away with the GOP primary here:

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has a big lead over his rivals in the first Rasmussen Reports survey of the Republican primary race in Arizona. The state's Republicans vote on February 28. A new telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters in Arizona shows Romney with 48% support, while former House Speaker Newt Gingrich comes in a distant second with 24%. Thirteen percent (13%) prefer former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, and six percent (6%) support Texas Congressman Ron Paul. Two percent (2%) like some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided.

Nick R. Martin at Talking Points Memo finds out how Gov. Jan Brewer is spending her Jan PAC money—and it doesn't seem to be dedicated to sealing the border:

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) launched a special fundraising political action committee in October, pledging to use the money to fight illegal immigration and take on other issues she believes in. But based on financial disclosures filed this week, she has so far used it to do little more than buy copies of her own book.

The governor had raised only about $22,000 for Jan PAC by the end of 2011 and spent nearly a quarter of the cash, buying books from Amazon and paying a bill at the luxurious Waldorf Astoria hotel in Orlando, Fla. The rest of the money is still in the bank.

The new restaurant Agustin Brasserie at Mercado San Agustin doesn't open until mid-February, but cocktails will be available in the market's courtyard starting today! Hooray! From the press release:
