The group aims to create a network where local cooks, gardeners and otherwise food-oriented folks can trade or barter handmade, homemade or foraged goods. You can visit its blog here.

Tucson has needed this sort of thing for a long time and I am thrilled to see it taking root. This city is teeming with talented cooks, gardeners and others who could make such an event a wonderful addition to our local culinary scene, and gathering them all in one place would create a sort of think tank that could germinate other great ideas.

Count me in for this one. I will be bringing fresh-baked rosemary bread to the first event on Sunday, April 1, provided I receive an invitation (hint, hint). You can sign up for the group's mailing list over here.

UA communications prof Kate Kenksi talked with AZPM's Christopher Conover about the campaign dynamics of the compressed Congressional District 8 race, including the challenges facing Republicans who are trying to raise money to compete in an April 17 primary.

Those GOP candidates vying to complete Gabrielle Giffords' term—state Sen. Frank Antenori, 2010 GOP nominee Jesse Kelly, fighter pilot Martha McSally and sports broadcaster and businessman Dave Sitton—start going head to head with a forum tonight in the Catalina Room of the Voyager RV Park, 8701 S. Kolb Road.

The debates continue next week, starting with the BattleBrooke of SaddleBrooke up in state Sen. Al Melvin’s stronghold. Melvin supported Kelly in the 2010 election, but has switched allegiances to Antenori this year.

The following night, the four candidates will meet again as the Sabino Teenage Republicans host a debate. The STAR-Spangled Tangle will feature moderators from the real alternative media in this town: The right-wing radio guys, including Jon Justice, Emil Franzi and Joe Higgins. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the debate is from 6:30 to 8:30 on Thursday, March 15, at Sabino High School, 5000 N. Bowes Road.

The Tucson music scene is short one pompadour this week with the passing of Jim Gyuro last Thursday night at University Medical Center after an 18-month struggle with a rare form of cancer. Gyuro was most recently known as kids’ rock crooner Mr. Mocos, as well as the lively “Casino Guy.” Within a brief 41-year lifespan, Gyuro delivered an extensive creative output as a musician, visual artist and marketing professional. Since 1989, Gyuro was a fixture at local nightclubs, singing and playing lead guitar in bands like Zuzu’s Petals, Flavius B. Freeman, Dick Grayson Trio, Lucy Chair and Fukuisan Go!

It was the foot-high hairdo that defined Gyuro’s image, along with his talent for writing infectious retro pop songs blending rockabilly, surf and latin music.

Yes, by watching this video from the Colbert Report, you will be exposed to the voice and opinions of Rush Limbaugh again, but I think Stephen Colbert's comments make that inconvenience worthwhile.

Meanwhile, while the number of advertisers fleeing Limbaugh's show has hit eleven, he did find someone willing to sponsor his opinions:

At least one advertiser stepped forward Monday to acknowledge increasing its ad spending on the Limbaugh program. A spokesman for Winning Our Future, a “super PAC” backing former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s presidential bid, said the group purchased more airtime.

“He apologized, and we’re satisfied,” said spokesman Rick Tyler, who said the group began advertising with the program two weeks ago.

Attorney Bill Risner has filed a lawsuit to knock Green Party candidate Charles Manolakis off the ballot in the Congressional District 8 special election on June 12 to complete the term of Gabrielle Giffords, who stepped down from Congress in January.

Risner filed the court case on behalf of Luke Knipe, a Democratic Party activist who noticed that Manolakis is a registered Democrat, not a member of the Green Party.

If Manolakis is kicked off the ballot, then there would be no third-party candidate on the ballot when Democrat Ron Barber, a longtime aide to Giffords, faces the winner of the April 17 Republican Party primary between state Sen. Frank Antenori, 2010 GOP congressional nominee Jesse Kelly, broadcaster and businessman Dave Sitton and former Air Force fighter pilot Martha McSally.

A hearing has been set for March 12, according to a court document.

As someone who has spent a significant amount of time thinking about Insane Clown Posse (this is my tenth post on The Range about the band!), the idea of a Juggalo-only social network where the group's fans can be seen in their natural environment, interacting Juggalo-to-Juggalo is quite exciting. However, it almost makes too much sense that the site doesn't seem to be working at the moment (I'm still waiting on my confirmation email at the moment, for example). However, Vice magazine made it on the site somehow, and it's nearly everything anyone could dream of:

After about 10 minutes on the site I learned that it’s basically a horny teenager’s cough syrup-induced daymare. Everyone is looking to sext immediately, and they’re very liberal with providing personal cell numbers to strangers—within 20 minutes of registering, I received a homie request and a message from a homely Juggalette. She told me she had to “put her kids to bed, but feel free to text me.” She then gave me her actual cell phone number....

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to scrub off the layer of filth this experience has coated me with. Nothing about JuggaloBook was fun; it was simply a bunch of whacked-out Midwesterners collectively losing their shit. Me and my laptop need an immediate chemical peel.
