Nan Stockholm Walden has called her Congressional District 2 race following Ron Barber's announcement that he would seek the office in the fall. Walden's statement:

After consideration and discussion with my family, I have chosen not to run for the Congressional District 2 seat at this time.

I want to thank the many friends, both old and new, that have sent me expressions and commitments of support. It is indeed heart warming. Campaigns come and go, but friendships last a lifetime.

I am looking forward to continuing my work in the public and private sector on behalf of Arizona. I plan as well to work hard to get Rich Carmona and Ron Barber elected, and for Raúl Grijalva’s re-election. While all elections are important, this year we have an unparalleled opportunity to move Arizona away from the divisive extremist politics of the last few years and elect representatives in the mold of Barry Goldwater, Dennis DeConcini, Mo Udall and Gabby Giffords that collaborate on behalf of our entire state.

Seriously, this is the best chocolate I've ever bitten into. It made my ears ring and the hair on my neck stand up. That is all.

Occasionally, I fantasize about throwing my lucrative career in blogging away and embarking on a culinary adventure, opening a low-key, but clever restaurant somewhere in town. I appreciate New York City's hipster king of chefs, David Chang, for his helpful advice discouraging me from going down that likely ill-advised road.

I've got a few scrambled thoughts about SXSW that I'm trying to string together for y'all, but in the meantime, I thought I'd share this cover of Wilco's "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart" by the astounding JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound. I closed out SXSW somewhere around 2 a.m. Sunday morning in the backyard of the Red Eyed Fly, clapping and swaying alongside good friends as JC howled and a wild girl danced onstage with some kinda glow-stick hula hoop. In the wake of Ron Barber's announcement yesterday that he was running for the new Congressional District 2 seat later this year, State Sen. Paula Aboud tells The Range that she also plans to stay in the CD2 race.

“I’m focused on the new district and the new term and I’m continuing forward,” Aboud says.

Aboud adds that she is also standing by her endorsement of Barber in the special election.

“Ron is a better choice than Jesse Kelly or Frank Antenori, but let’s see how it all shakes out,” Aboud says.

State Rep. Steve Farley has reset his sights on a state Senate seat, while state Rep. Matt Heinz says he'll challenge Barber for the Democratic nomination in the CD2 race.

Because I am easily amused, here is a video editing together clips of political candidates over the beat from Eminem's "The Real Slim Shady" intended to humiliate Mitt Romney. No particular political insight, just clever splicing to make politicians say funny things. At this point in the Republican primary/caucus process, I could use a laugh.

But while a report by the nation’s leading watchdog of the extremist movement shows the numbers of so-called “border watch” groups are dwindling, some that remain have shown a surprising penchant for violence. They are armed, angry and desperate to fight in what they see as a real-life war taking place in the nation’s borderlands.

In just the past few years alone, federal agents in Arizona have gone on a hunt for a man who claimed to have littered the desert with explosive devices. They have been told a Minuteman-style organization planned to shut down a major freeway. They have discovered a bomb planted along a known smuggling route. And more recently, a militia group has talked openly about buying a tank to combat what it calls “narco terrorism” flowing across the border.
