On Arizona Public Media's Political Roundtable tonight, Pima County Democratic Party chairman Jeff Rogers and Republican Party chairwoman Carolyn Cox looked back on the week in politics, including the efforts of congressional Republicans to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress over the release of Fast and Furious documents; the latest reaction to President Obama's announcement that his administration would not seek to deport young people who were brought to the United States without proper documentation; Congressman Ron Barber's vote in favor of waiving environmental laws near the border to assist in restricting illegal immigration; the tightening U.S. Senate race; the potential problems for a proposed sales-tax initiative; and more!

iPads and other tablets are cool, but they provide a view into a world that can often provide information and messages that are in conflict with the true Christian-American way of life. But what if you could get a tablet that would pre-filter your media sources for you...linking you directly to Christian radio stations, making it easy to get all your e-books from a Christian retailer, filtering out the internet's naughty bits, etc.

Bizarrely, based on the specs, this tablet is in some ways a better deal than the Kindle Fire (cheaper, better battery, albeit a crappier display), but it doesn't do Flash and you can only see the pre-approved internet. So there's that.

V Fine Thai Dining down on the corner of Stone and Congress has added a bunch of vegetarian and vegan options. This, of course, can be enjoyed in what I think is one of the most incredible courtyards in town and under the influence of one of the many great cocktails or imported wines and beers the place stocks.

Some of the new dishes include a grilled garlic portabella mushroom cap served with curried corn on the cob; green avocado curry with eggplant and green beans and artichoke hearts cooked with basil and tofu.

Also worth checking out: V Fine Thai Dining's summer menu, which includes a Thai fish-and-chips and barbecued pork ribs with sweet-potato fries. More on all of that deliciousness over here.

Democrat Richard Carmona's campaign team is touting a new poll that shows the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate just 2 percentage points behind Congressman Jeff Flake, the GOP frontrunner. The Public Policy Polling survey showed that 43 percent of voters were supporting Flake, 41 percent were supporting Carmona and 16 percent were undecided. The Range talked with Carmona earlier this week; we'll present our Q&A with him in several parts over the next few days. Here's the first installment.

Democratic Senate candidate Richard Carmona: You’ve got this gridlock and compromise becomes a four-letter word.
  • Democratic Senate candidate Richard Carmona: "You’ve got this gridlock and compromise becomes a four-letter word."
You’ve said it’s difficult to have a democracy when you have so many people who mistrust the government. Can you elaborate on that?

You look at the polling and as much as 90 percent of the people have no confidence in their government anymore. How can you possibly have a democracy if nine out of 10 people don’t trust the people that they’ve elected and appointed to those positions, who are essentially responsible for our destiny? So you have the debacle with Fannie and Freddie and the SEC and countless breaches of fiduciary responsibility. It’s no wonder that people have lost trust and confidence in their government. That’s juxtaposed with the fact that nobody wants to compromise anymore and the political sphere is filled with hyper-partisanship and no statesmanship. We have lots of politicians but few statesmen now. I don’t want to sound naïve, but the old days, even though each side of the aisle disagreed, they got work done. You had Goldwater and Udall, and President Reagan and Tip O’Neil, but that’s not happening today. You’ve got this gridlock and compromise becomes a four-letter word. And democracy is predicated on compromise, because we all have opinions. So how are you going to put that all together and make a decision for the greater good of a community or a nation or a world? It’s disappointing, because if you continue like this, I don’t see how can perpetuate democracy, because it’s just gridlock.

Did you see that going on in Washington when you were working as surgeon general in the Bush White House?

I would say that it was not as vitriolic and hyper-partisan as it is today, but there were times that I scratched my head and worried about both sides of the aisle. I’m not blaming either, I’m just saying, "Guys, you have to come together and we need to solve some problems." Being surgeon general is unique because you work routinely with both sides of the aisle. The issues of the health, safety and security of the nation aren’t Democrat or Republican—they’re American. And we have to figure out how to solve the problems. Even though each side of the aisle may have a different view on how these problems can be solved, the challenge is, "Let’s see if we can coalesce around these ideas and come out with something that’s a hybrid that makes sense for the greater good of the nation and the community that we’re dealing with." As we all know, generally in a democracy, no one person gets everything. You get some of what you need, but we satisfy the needs of the greater good.

Fifteen food trucks will convene in the parking lot of Benjamin Plumbing Supply at 76 E. Sixth St. this Sunday. There will be an emphasis on cold things that take the edge off this lovely summer heat. There will also be food from Jamie's Bitchen' Kitchen, fish tacos from Baja Tacos and many others. Check in over here for more on that.

Sorry for all you non-Facebook users, but the organizers of this event only post their information there and haven't been updating their website with much event info.

These food truck events are great, and I truly hope they continue to evolve and grow and thrive. But let's not forget that there's a food truck festival happening nearly every day along South 12th and Sixth avenues and elsewhere in the city, where food trucks have been a way of life for many decades. Those little taco trucks, raspado stands and hotdog vendors continuously crank out amazing street food that is cheap and delicious.

Check it out sometime. You might be surprised at what you find.

Note from Dan Gibson: Mary Yohem is a student at Catalina Foothills High School and the daughter of Roger Yohem from our sister publication, Inside Tucson Business. She asked for an opportunity to plug a youth theater production she's involved in, so here you go.

One of the “biggest” theatre productions of the summer is “Big,” being staged by the Catalina Foothills Community Schools Summer Theatre program. It is the Broadway musical version of the popular 1988 movie starring Tom Hanks.

Directed by Terry Erbe, the high school’s theatre teacher, the play is about 12-year-old Josh Baskin who wishes he were "BIG" and wakes up the next morning as a 30-year-old man. He discovers there's much more to being an adult then he wished for.

Starring in the lead role is Drake Sherman, a Foothills high school junior, as adult Josh. Young Josh is played by Justyn Zeider, an eighth grader at Esperero Canyon Middle School, and James Cockrell, a Foothills high school freshman. Josh’s best friend Billy is played by Vaughn Sherman, a Foothills freshman.

Sharing the spotlight as Susan Lawrence, the female lead, are Sara Fallahi, a Foothills senior, and Savannah Runge, a Foothills freshman. The technical directors are Norm Testa and Clint Bryson. Musical accompaniment is by Khris Dodge.

The shows, held at Catalina Foothills High School Little Theatre, 4300 E. Sunrise Drive, open Thursday June 28 at 1 p.m. at a discounted rate of $5. All shows after that are $10, starting with a 7 p.m. performance that night. Friday and Saturday show times are 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

I decided this morning that I needed to get over my (I believe to be somewhat justified as a Cleveland sports fan) extreme dislike of LeBron James. First of all, I'm sure he doesn't care. Second, he earned the title last night, somehow dragging a basketball team that used the walking corpse of Mike Miller in key game moments to a 4-1 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Third, he seems to actually have learned some lessons from last year's egomaniacal debacle, telling ESPN that winning a championship was harder than he thought, seemingly expressing some regret for announcing when he signed with Miami that the team would win seven titles.

Then, he tweets the above message this morning, and of course, he should be excited for reaching the pinnacle of his sport, but I realize it's probably more fun for me to think of the guy with a "Chosen One" tattoo as the villain. Feeling shitty at the end of sports seasons comes with the territory as a Cleveland fan, so this isn't all that much different. You still suck, LeBron, and I think I can feel that way while begrudgingly acknowledging your talent and what it took to win the title. Like I've done for decades, I can start looking forward to another likely disappointment (the Indians are still a half game up on the White Sox! The Brandon Weeden era for the Browns!) in another sport.

Oh, you say that LeBron was rapping with LMFAO last night about "haters being quiet"?

Congrats, jackass. Hope you never win another.

UPDATE:

I feel your pain, pal. I get it.
