Looks like former public defender Joel Feinman's effort to topple Pima County Attorney Barbara LaWall is coming up short: LaWall leads Feinman by about 11,000 votes: 36,541 to 25,742. LaWall is headed to a sixth term; she was first elected in 1996.

Pima County Supervisor Ally Miller has a 2,000-vote lead on challenger John Winchester in her race for reelection tonight. (Miller 10,780; Winchester 8,567) Miller has often been unhinged in her first term, but as a symbol of opposition to Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry and the other board members, Miller has won over a majority of Republican primary voters tonight. She will face Democrat Brian Bickel in the GOP-leaning District 1 in the November general.
In the race to replace Pima County Supervisor Ray Carroll, former car dealer and State Transportation Board member Steve Christy has jumped to a big lead over his outsider challengers, Marla Closen and John Backer. (Christy 10,568/Closen 6,834/Backer 1,597). Christy faces minor opposition by Green Party candidate Josh Reilly in November.

Director Todd Phillips, a man generally responsible for slob comedies like The Hangover and Old School, goes a more serious, satirical route with this one. The results are mixed, but it’s ultimately entertaining.
Based on an article in Rolling Stone magazine that described real-life gun-runners who bilked the government and screwed each other over, the film plays out as a sort of The Wolf of Wall Street with weapons and Albania instead of stocks and the Financial District. Contributing to that Wolf vibe would be Jonah Hill (who stars in both) playing Efraim Diveroli, a diabolical, narcissistic weapons dealer who puts profit before morality and friendship.
Even though Hill throws in an annoying laugh that should’ve been discouraged, the core of his performance is still funny, and brutal when it needs to be. Miles Teller plays his partner, David Packouz, a massage therapist who can’t keep his career in line and needs to straighten out fast—especially because he has a kid on the way with his wife, Iz (Ana de Armas, far less scary here than when she was torturing Keanu Reeves in Knock Knock).
The film is at its best when the two are delivering a shipment of guns to Iraq on the ground in a beat up truck. Both Hill and Teller are good here, even when the film treads into familiar territory. This isn’t a great movie, but especially in a summer that’s stunk, it’s one of the season’s better ones.

If you didn't think Tucson was cool enough already, the UA Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium is giving you yet another reason. The planetarium opened on the UA campus in 1975, but has recently been completely renovated from its original digs.
Flandrau is a big deal: It's one of only two planetariums in the entire sate, and it's one of only a few nationwide that is part of a university. Considering the UA is world renowned for its studies in astronomy and planetary science, its planetarium should be equally as impressive.
About two years ago the university decided to begin the renovation process by installing a full dome digital projection system “which is the current state of the art in planetarium projection,” said Shipherd Reed, Marketing and Communications Manager for the Flandarau Science Center. After the technological systems were updated, it became very evident that the rest of the establishment was outdated, prompting an entire building remodel. The remodel includes better acoustics, lighting, and most importantly seating that takes advantage of the cutting edge projection system.
The Planetarium opened its renovated doors on Saturday, Aug. 27. Go check out the interactive exhibits and the IMAX-esque full dome show. The Planetarium is open seven days a week and offers shows every day except Monday. For more information on specific hours and times of shows visit http://flandrau.org/.
