Learn how to create healthy meals using ingredients such as cholla buds, tepary beans, mesquite flour, nopales and prickly pear fruit. There will be a variety of activities and information on native foods and community resources from community partners.
Enjoy the physical activity station, salsa with Ritmos Latinos dance club, dance with the Arizona Swing Cats, create sugar garden skulls with the Pima County Public Library’s Seed Library and participate in other fun and informative garden activities, such as plant-a-seed with a chance to win gardening prizes. Free First Thursdays at TMA. The Tucson Museum of Art is always worth visiting, but it's especially worth visiting when admission is free, and when there's all sorts of Dia de los Muertos activities going on. On this month's agenda: performances by Backup Brass Band, a procession by the All Souls Procession founder, Susan K Johnson, and the Cholla High Magnet High School Mariachi band. You can also make some of your own art and poetry activities, check out the altars and art installations created by local students (plus one by the Consulate of Mexico), pick up some snacks from Marwa Alfandi Syrian Sweets and get some Dia de Los Muertos-inspired hair and makeup by Belle Starr Salon. 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1. Odyssey Storytelling Presents: Dealbreakers. What are some dealbreakers for you? Do you not date guys who wear turtlenecks? Would you not take a job if it required you to come in every morning at 5 a.m.? Would you never move into a house without a microwave? This month, Ethel Lee-Miller has curated a selection of six storytellers who will be telling stories about dealbreakers in several lives. There's an anthropology professor, a jigsaw puzzle enthusiast, three authors and a geologist, which goes to show you that, truly, everyone has their dealbreakers. 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1. Tucson Comic-Con will take place on Friday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m., Saturday Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. and Sunday Nov. 4. at 10 a.m. at the Tucson Convention Center. The mission is “Pop Culture for All”.
The 11th annual Tucson Comic-Con is presented by Zia Records. It is dedicated to bringing a community-based pop culture experience. They will have TV and movie celebrities, comic book creators, artists, costume groups, photo ops, games, panels, a scavenger hunt and a Kid Zone.
Tucson Comic-Con was founded by Mike Olivares and began as a single-day event with 500 fans. Over the years the event has now grown into the three day festival it is today, complete with all your favorite comic-related activities and over 10,000 attendees each year.
The celebrity guests include Jake “The Snake” Roberts who is known for his work with the World Wrestling Federation, Tim Rose who is most famous for his character Admiral Ackbar in Star Wars, Rachel Lillis who is best known for her work in Pokémon and Kirk R. Thatcher who is an Emmy award winning writer/producer for Dinosaurs, Muppet Treasure Island and numerous Muppet films.
Comic industry guests include Dennis O’Neil, an acclaimed comic book writer and editor, Budd Root, whose first comic book Cavewoman has been continually published for well over 20 years making it one of the longest running independent titles in recent memory, Sina Grace, writer and artist who drew several series, Dan Mendoza, creator of Zombie Tramp in 2009, Dawn Mcteigue, a comic book artist and Eric M. Esquivel, a comic book author.
The annual costume contest will take place at the Tucson Convention Center’s Leo Rich Theater on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. with the youth costume contest a little earlier in the day at 2 p.m.

The book chosen for the book club is acclaimed New York Times bestseller Caraval by Stephanie Garber. A mystery fantasy novel about a girl named Scarlett who is forced into marriage by her father. Bookmans is also hosting a studio night of halloween painting on Friday, Oct. 26. The painting class is free and all ages are welcome. No need to bring painting supplies, all crafts will be provided.

Tuscany's Gelato Festival returns to America by visiting seven different cities including Tucson on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 12 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 28 from 12 to 7p.m.
So far, the Festival has toured six different cities around the country including Jersey City in New Jersey, Chicago, Washington D.C., Dallas, Santa Barbara and Scottsdale.
As part of the festival, the gelato chefs will have gone through a selection process for the competition. The winners in the festival will compete again for the three best American gelato chefs and will be part of the top 36 gelato chefs in the world.
In the 2017 Gelato Festival, there were nearly 40,000 visitors and 50 gelato makers. The chefs competed and showcased their gelato flavors to produce over 13,000 pounds of gelato.
Some events at this year's gelato festival feature the Gelato School, where award-winning gelato artisans will share information about being a gelato chef. There will also be a Gelato Eating Contest, where five people will eat five cups of gelato and the fastest will win a gallon of gelato.
For kids, there will be a Kid's Jury, where kids will have the opportunity to ask the chefs questions and vote on their favorite flavors.
Danielle Palazzoni, the General Manager of the Gelato Festival America, said that the festival had a huge success all over Europe and in its first festival held in America last year.
"We realize that Americans really do love gelato," Palazzoni said. "It is our goal to make certain that every American gets to taste what real Italian gelato is like and to spread the culture of artisan Italian gelato throughout the world's largest consumer market for frozen desserts."
Tickets for the festival will be sold at $30 for adults, $25 for seniors (65+), $25 for children (3 to 12 years old) and free for children under two years old. Purchase tickets online in advance to receive a discounted price.

The Hello Kitty Food Truck (yes, there is such a thing!) will be stopping in Tucson for the first time on Saturday, Oct. 20. There will be exclusive goodies including giant Hello Kitty Chef Cookies, a lunchbox with confetti popcorn, and Hello Kitty plush toys.
Other best-selling items include thermal bottles, keychains, a 5 piece macaroon box set, headbands and t-shirts.
Since 2014, the Hello Kitty Food Truck has catered to thousands of visitors across the U.S and has visited 60 cities, including major cities like Los Angeles, Seattle, Houston, Chicago and New York.
In 2018, the food truck expanded its traveling destinations and will now visit Boise, Idaho and Omaha, Nebraska as well as our hometown of Tucson.

The Tucson Woman's Club will feature a sale of crafted miniatures from across the country including exhibits of miniatures, silent auctions, raffles and project workshops for children.
The showcase is sponsored by The Mini Time Machine League, a committee of the Mini Time Machine, Inc. and the Southern Arizona Miniature Enthusiasts social club. All the proceeds from the show will go towards The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures.
To enter the showcase tickets will be sold for $7 general admission, $3 for children ages 4-12 and free for children ages 3 and under. Admission will be valid for both days of the event and each paid admission will also include admission ticket to The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures.
The miniature showcase will be on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and located at the Tucson Woman's Club on 6245 E. Bellevue Street.

Spoiler alert! What do you call a haunted chicken? A poultry-geist. Welcome to The Gaslight Theatre’s Vampire, tricked out in the Gaslight’s beloved lowbrow, fabulously costumed retro style.
The incongruity of this production’s songs, always good for a laugh in the Gaslight’s music and dance revues, find an apotheosis in the Vampire cast’s Macarena. The adapted lyrics are side-splitting. Likewise, Phil Spector’s 'Then He Kissed Me' all but sums up the plot line. With Tea for Two (Teefer, get it?), this production may have achieved what sometimes seems like Gaslight’s perennial goal: the worst pun ever.
Wolfman Jack delivers more groaners in this production’s Olio, the short variety show that follows each performance.
But what fun! Gaslight now has more than 40 years’ experience making all ages laugh – heartily, scornfully, giggly, eye-rollingly, squealingly – all the same.

Bewitched Blanches Vamp with Ghosts
Southern California comedians Anthony Desamito and Jimmy Callaway bring their Two Blanches tour to The Screening Room at 8:30 pm, Friday, October 19; $3 admission includes popcorn.
The duo perform as part of The Bewitched Comedy show hosted by local comics, Steena Salido, Marcus Gallego and Ali Musa. Musa, an alleged Ouija Board savant, brings jokes with its ghosts in an audience-participation game. Salido and Gallego join in the mystical fun with comedians Autumn Horvat, Brett J McCabe, Matt Ziemak, Molly Bridget Dean and Rich Gary.
Audience members are encouraged to wear costumes. A contest rewards the funniest.
Sensitive Humor
Vern White’s Key da Life Entertainment presents Sensitive Humor, an evening of music and comedy at 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at The O, 2000 North Oracle Road; free. Featured comedians are Rory Monserrat, Matt Ziemak and Chris Ryan. Wing lovers can get them for fifty cents all night.

Mid Autumn Night’s Dream

Affectionately coined, "Tucson EAT yourself," the festival presents a unique opportunity to have nachos and pad tai, tacos and dumplings, fry bread and curry all in one sitting.
"Tucson Meet Yourself is a folklife festival. We focus on presenting artists and communities that carry on living traditions rooted in a group’s own definition of identity, artistry, and cultural significance," according the TMY's mission.Culturally based arts and crafts galore, performances from an array of artists and talks and tabling from various organizations are also a part of the heart of the festival.
