A Steak in the Neighborhood at 135 E. Congress St. has closed, according to this entry posted on the restaurant’s Facebook page over the weekend:
A Steak in the Neighborhood is closed. We are working on a new concept so keep an eye on this page for more information.
One can only wonder what this new concept will be, but if Luke Cusack - who owns A Steak in the Neighborhood; the nightclubs Sapphire and Zen Rock; and Lindy's at Redline Sports Grill and RPM Nightclub - is involved, it shouldn't be long before the new place opens. He's a master at tearing restaurants out and putting new concepts back in with a quickness.

Well, I guess that actually depends on what you consider a good cause. If you consider teaching kids how to farm so we can have lots of fresh, local vegetables around as time goes on, then the upcoming Dinner With Janos event might be right up your alley. If not, stop reading ... now.
The dinner starts at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 25, and will feature a farmers' market, Peruvian music, four courses and no-host cocktails. Money raised at the event goes to the Youth Apprenticeship Program at the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona's Marana Heritage Farm.
There's more information here.

This has to be another project by the owners of the Apple Farm Bakery Restaurant near Benson - the sign is identical - but we're out on assignment today and won't be able to verify that until later in the week. If it is, expect some down home diner fare when it opens.
You'll be the first to know when we learn more.

I hear that Cartel Coffee Lab at 2502 N. Campbell Ave. is expanding into a full-service restaurant. An employee said yesterday that the place could be serving food sometime before the end of the year.
I love Cartel Coffee Lab - which by the way, is a fantastic name - and anticipate great things once it starts offering food. A quick internet search also shows that the owners have applied for a liquor license. Good times.

Yes! The new Fourth Avenue gourmet breakfast spot Bacon and Craeggs opened last night. You can read more about the restaurant over here.
It looks like the restaurant - which has an amazing build your own eggs Benedict menu - isn't offering sit-down service inside the restaurant until October, but patio dining is available now. It appears they're still offering delivery service as well.

The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona is moving the farmers’ market at the Marana Heritage Farm to the new Marana Health Center at 13395 N. Marana Main St.
The move is in response to greater demand for a more central location, which is music to these ears. It seems like one of the only ways out of the obesity epidemic plaguing this and other countries is making more healthy stuff available to people. I’m no expert or local-food nut, but I am from small-town America, and it can be difficult to eat well when there’s little but processed foods and Super Walmarts to choose from.
The new market takes place from 3 to 6 p.m., every Tuesday. Melons, apples, pears, pomegranates, squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, basil, peppers, eggplant, okra, onions, garlic, sweet potatoes and much more is in season right now.
More over here.

This doesn't do you a lot of good until next week, but if you enjoy tacos and bargains, you should check out Taqueria El Rapido, located next to the Circle K at Benson Highway and Country Club on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

While it's not like the tacos are particularly pricey at $1.50 a piece, but since it's likely going to take three to make for a solid lunch, the 99 cent taco deal Taqueria El Rapido (which despite its name, is not all that "rapido") runs earlier in the week saved me $1.50, which was enough to get a Coke in a bottle as well.
I wouldn't say the tacos are spectacular, but they're definitely solid, with tender meat and quality tortillas. I think I've worked my way through the entire meat selection at this point, and I haven't been disappointed by any of the options. Plus, the condiment bar has a good selection covering most of the classics of taqueria toppings: pickled red onions, a couple salsas, avocado crema, radishes, etc. I'm almost certainly biased by this truck's semi-proximity to the TW offices, but between the cheap tacos and the ability to double the net weight of my plate via toppings, Taqueria El Rapido might be one of my favorite places to eat right now.

The Boondocks Lounge at 3306 North First Ave. is best known for the enormous wine bottle monolith out front. It’s not as well-known for its breakfasts and burgers, but it should be.
I rolled in just after 9 a.m. on a recent morning and decided on a plate of huevos rancheros, but it was a tough choice. The breakfast menu is huge and chock full of everything from corned-beef hash to apple pancakes. There’s a nice omelet selection, too.
The kitchen — known as the Range Rider Grill — is probably best-known for the burgers topped with ingredients like peanut butter, fried eggs, feta cheese and other things usually reserved for fancier burger joints. Not that the meat loaf, salads, appetizers and other items aren't respectable, but the regulars say the burgers are best, so we're sticking with that.
Food accounts for about a fifth of the Boondocks’ sales, a stunning figure for a neighborhood bar. I sat down with owner Cathy Warner to find out how she does it.

Brushfire BBQ at 2745 N. Campbell Ave. now serves beer, making one of Tucson’s favorite barbeque destinations just that much better.
Work is still underway on the second location on the corner of 22nd Street and Kolb Road, although the opening inches ever closer. Keep up on the progress of that over yonder.
