Hacienda Del Sol Heritage Foods Festival. A gourmet buffet and local brew, with wine and spirit tastings too. A farmers markets will be on-scene, as well as Chef Yim and his culinary team. Villa Peru. In early August, a new restaurant came on the scene, serving up authentic Peruvian cuisine. Try the anticuchos skewers or the lomo saltado, inside a wonton skin and topped with avocado. The Salazar family owns and runs the operation, and this Tucson restaurant is their second location. The first was in Tempe, where they did quite well, named best Latin American Restaurant in 2012. Originally, the family hails from Peru, so you know it’s authentic (and so yummy too!) Did we mention that they’ve got a full-service bar, with a Pisco Sour cocktail? Bless the Salazars. 1745 E. River Road #165.

Mama’s Hawaiian Bar-B-Cue Expansion. With two new locations at Tucson Premium Outlets and over at The Hub, Mama’s Hawaiian Bar-B-Cue is expanding your options for grub. No longer must you brave the roads and play a somber ballad while you drive all the way to the eastside to get a beef teriyaki salad. We only wish that this change could have happened soona’, but now’s a perfect time to dig into a Big Kahuna. 6401 W. Marana Center Blvd. and 1011 N. Tyndall Ave.

Salsa, Tequila & Taco Challenge. Living here in Tucson, it would be more or less obscene to say you don’t enjoy the trifecta of classic Southwest cuisine. Put salsa on your tacos! Try the Salsa Borracha with tequila! Try the habanero cotton candy or the mini chilaquiles! Though this poem opened with describing a trifecta, it has even more offerings than you may have expected. Bundt cakes, churro tots, Tikki Masala and beer. What more reason could you need to make sure your schedule’s clear? 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3. “Fighting Fire With Food: An Expert’s Inside Look at Nutrition and Inflammation… What Does the Science Say?” Arthritis and clogged arteries, and damaged tissues too. Do these symptoms of inflammations sound familiar to you? You may not feel this information relates to your palate’s predilections, but guess what! What you eat may have the power to alleviate your afflictions. Dr. Donato Romagnolo and Dr. Ann Skulas-Ray will separate fact from myth about nutritional science today. What is a Mediterranean diet? Is fish oil really so great? The answers to all of these questions and more (well, probably) relate. 6 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6. Banner University Medical Center Tucson, DuVal Auditorium, 1501 N. Campbell Ave. Free.

Museums

Space Night 2017. Sleepovers at friends’ houses are fun, but are they educational? Are there opportunities to use state-of-the-art telescopes? Are there real meteorites available to be touched? We didn’t think so. The Children’s Museum Tucson will be showing sleepover guests how to get a party started with pizza, pajamas, binoculars, thermal cameras, and even meteorite-touching ops. Families are welcome to pitch tents in designated areas in the museum and in the main courtyard, for that highly sought after “pitch-a-tent-in-the-living-room-or-backyard-but-still-be-surrounded-by-fascinating-artifacts-and-unique-educational-opportunites” feel that many a sleepover party host has strived for and not attained. 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 to Sunday, Aug. 27. Children's Museum Tucson 200 South Sixth Ave. $50, $45 for museum members.

Not to mention there will be paella, empanadas, artisan vendors and live Spanish guitar. Tucson residents can bring a whole new meaning to the phrase "couch potato" by having potatoes delivered right to their door: in original spud form or in frenched form.

Grocery delivery service Instacart launched in Tucson on Aug. 8 and UberEATS, the food delivery branch of the popular ride service, launched in the city on Aug. 9.

Instacart allows customers to explore online "aisles" and fill virtual carts, then set a time (anywhere from an hour to a week in advance) to have the food delivered to their front door. For the initial Tucson launch, Instacart has partnered with with Bashas’, Whole Foods Market, Petco, Natural Grocers, CVS, Fry’s and Costco—without a membership. Partners share inventories with Instacart, which means that what customers see online matches what's available in-store.

Orders must be a minimum of $35 (which isn't hard to do at a grocery store), and there's a flat delivery fee of $5.99. As a promotion to new Tucson customers, Instacart is offering $20 off customers' first order, and free delivery. This means that not only can you can get $50 worth of groceries for $30, but they'll be delivered right to your front door!

UberEATS delivers food from 80 restaurant partners, including eegees, Baggin's Gourmet Sandwiches and Chickenuevo, to customers' doors. UberEATS General manager and UA alum Clay Carroll said that there are about 1000 total Uber drivers in Tucson, some of whom do rides, some of whom do food delivery, and some who do both, for a large service area.

"All the way from Oro Valley all the way down to South Tucson," he said.

Uber customers must download the UberEATS app separately, but log in using their regular Uber account. First-time customers can use the promo code provided by a friend to get $5 off their first order.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. And on Aug. 25, HUB Restaurant & Ice Creamery will heed our cries when it reopens for lunch and dinner after its summer renovations. Brunch, the most important meal of the day and clinically shown to be the most acceptable time to get day drunk, will be back in business on Aug. 26.

Two hundred ice cream addicts who enter on HUB’s Facebook page will win a chance to experience the new interior and private dining room a day or two early, for pre-opening celebrations on Aug. 23 and 24.

If you’re not one of the lucky 200, you can still be a part of the grand reopening festivities on Aug. 25-27, when the HUB will be giving away free ice cream to guests with the purchase of an entree.

HUB is located in downtown Tucson. More information can be found at HUBdowntown.com

More than one month after their home was burglarized, Harmesh and Raksha Bhatti continue to receive community support for their losses. The burglars claimed all of their computers, televisions and jewelry—they also inflicted permanent damage to furniture and other possessions in their home.  Following the incident, individuals and organizations banded together to help restore stability to the Bhatti's life.

Ori Parnaby, organizer of a YouCaring crowd funding campaign to benefit the Bhatti's, turned over a check for $1,540 to the restaurateurs Tuesday, Aug. 1. Fundraising efforts continue to stream in from across Tucson, though much of the damage to the home remains. Organizers of fundraising efforts ask community members to continue lending their support to the Bhattis on their road to recovery.

In the coming weeks, consider dining at the India Oven (2727 N. Campbell Ave.) or donating to Parnaby’s campaign and showing the Bhattis your support.
