As part of Second Saturdays downtown, Cinema La Placita is screening the 1979 classic The Muppet Movie on a wall off Congress (between Scott and Stone) on January 14th. The first screening starts at 6 pm, with another following at 7:40. Also, it should be noted that this is a great movie and you will shame yourself and your household by not attending.

I suppose this is the advantage of putting together your own biopic, but I'm still relatively sure that picking Justin Timberlake to play you in a movie isn't how it works, Elton John.

I know you've been working on a biopic. Is that still in the works?

That's very much in the works. We're making an announcement about that very, very soon. We have a director on board, and then it's just going to be a matter of getting the script exactly the way we want it. Lee Hall has written a script — he wrote "Billy Elliot" — and then we'll start trying to cast and plan.

And who will be you?

I don't know. I've got a wish list of people. No. 1 on my wish list is Justin Timberlake, because he played me before in a David LaChapelle video of "Rocket Man" and was superb.

Remember when everyone was posting photos of celebrities they vaguely look like as their profile image on Facebook? I don't think anyone was supposed to pick Ryan Gosling or Mila Kunis, because everyone would realize that sort of confusion never happens. They're never going to make a movie of my life, but if they did, I'd be thrilled if Jonah Hill got fat again and played me, mostly because I think the second choice would be Brian Austin-Green (again, he would have to gain some weight for the role). Elton John has the distinct advantage of being famous, but maybe he should just let someone else handle the casting process.

The Loft announced today that they will be screening (for free!) Orson Welles' classic Citizen Kane as part of their Essential Cinema series on Sunday, January 29th at 11 am and Tuesday, January 31st at 7 am, which is great news for people who enjoy movies, but even better news for a web producer looking for an excuse to post his favorite Kids in the Hall sketch.

I actually enjoy my employment here at the Tucson Weekly, so this isn't entirely helpful for me, but if you're thinking of starting 2012 anew without the oppressive yoke of your crappy job, perhaps this montage of bombastic exits from work might be of some assistance.

Michel Gondry is a strange man with peculiar interests, but I love everything he creates. I get the feeling he makes weird videos when he's supposed to be doing something else, and to that end, here's his "sweded" take on Taxi Driver.

I like the idea of movies, but I rarely actually get out of my house to see them, so I'm going to assume that all of the films selected by the staff of the Loft Cinema as part of their best of 2011 list are amazing. By this time next year, perhaps I will have seen at least half of them. Remind me then and I'll tell you what I thought.

1. Melancholia
2. Take Shelter
3. Marwencol
4. Attack the Block
5. The Interrupters
6. Incendies
7. The Last Circus
8. Bill Cunningham New York
9. Meek's Cutoff
10. TIE Drive and The Tree of Life

The release of a movie trailer isn't generally news, but this one, for the last film in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight series, seems like an exception.

I don't want to wait until March to see Jiro Dreams Of Sushi, a documentary about Jiro Ono, generally considered the world's best sushi chef, who works at a sushi bar with ten seats in a Tokyo subway station. I want to see it now and then I want to eat everything on the screen. Yet, I will probably see Jiro Dreams Of Sushi on DVD at some point in my living room, likely while eating Safeway brand tortilla chips. This is the deep injustice of my life.

Just so I'm understanding the point that Dan Gainor from Media Research Center tried to make on Fox Business, Disney, the world's largest media company, is actually an secret agent of anti-corporate propaganda brainwashing the children because the bad guy in The Muppets is a wild caricature of a Texas oil man and in Cars 2, there's a bad guy who sells a fake gas substitute. Sure, it's essentially one step away from Occupy Wall Street.

Fair warning: after a few minutes, this clip descends into nonsense where the two conservative loudmouths crack jokes about Barney Frank and how dumb poor people are and the token liberal seems bewildered and isn't really helping her own cause.

Coming back from the holiday, it's probably not the best day to watch a two hour documentary while pretending to work, but if you missed Robert Weide's documentary on Woody Allen that aired on PBS's American Masters this month, you can thankfully catch it online (at least for the time being). The first twenty minutes are embedded below (it jumps to PBS's site for the rest).

Watch Woody Allen: A Documentary Part 1 on PBS. See more from AMERICAN MASTERS.
