I get a little enraged when people are making excessive noise at the movies as well, but the end of Black Swan was definitely not worth shooting anyone over:
A man has been shot dead at a cinema in Latvia after a fellow movie-goer objected to the volume at which he was eating his popcorn. The assailant, 27, reportedly had a brief argument with the man, aged 43, who was sitting next to him during a screening of Black Swan in the Forum cinema, one of the largest in the city of Riga. When the credits rolled, the younger man pulled out a legally registered firearm and shot the other man dead. Other audience members then phoned for the police and an ambulance. The younger man — a graduate of the police academy who holds a doctorate in law from the University of Latvia — waited to be arrested.

A few fun facts about the film adaptation of Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand's very long 1957 novel.
1. The movie will be in three parts, although only the first volume currently has a scheduled release date.
2. At various times, famous people such as Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, Russell Crowe, and Brad Pitt have been linked to the film at various times. None of those people are in this version.
3. The trailer debuted at the Conservative Political Action Conference last week and will premiere on April 15th.
4. Director Paul Johansson is apparently best known for appearances on One Tree Hill, but for me, he'll always be Beverly Hills 90210's evil frat brother John Sears, who set Steve Sanders up for a crime he didn't commit.

1) I don't want to know what they're going to do with those proton packs.
2) I would say a number of "Gatekeeper/Keymaster" jokes are certain, with a "crossing streams" remark somewhat likely.
3) If there's a sequel, I'd imagine Bobby Brown is available to do the theme.

I'm sure this announcement is just a cruel joke designed to crush my emotions down the road, but for now, I'm going to be excited by what Digital Spy reported today:
Mitch Hurwitz has revealed that he wants to have the Arrested Development movie in cinemas by the end of this year.Hurwitz, who created the short-lived sitcom, told Digital Spy that he is currently working on a script with Jim Valley that will resurrect the Bluth family for the big screen.
"We've started that process and it is our sincere hope to shoot it this year and get it out this year," Hurwitz said. "That's what we're hoping, but a lot of things have to fall into place for that to happen."
Asked about the storyline for the Arrested movie, Hurwitz added: "I want to keep whatever it is we end up with as a surprise, which kind of betrays the fact that we might not have the whole thing worked out!
"But I don't like to toy with the affections of our fans. They've been so supportive and we're so grateful, so I kind of hate to answer the question until I can say, 'Yep, we've shot it, it opens next week'. Otherwise it feels like we're toying with people and we do not mean to do that. It has just taken a while to get it going."

Maybe it'll be great, but seeing Kristen Stewart as Mary Lou and Garrett Hedlund, the lead from Tron: Legacy, as Dean Moriarty in the new press photos from the long awaited film version of On the Road isn't entirely encouraging. A French site has two other photos as well, which wisely focus on Stewart, since she's associated with the Twilight juggernaut. No word on whether Sal Paradise will sparkle.

If you're looking for something to do tonight, why not watch a documentary about Motorhead frontman Lemmy at the Loft? The whole One Hit Wonder series at the Loft is cool, giving films that can't necessarily pull off a week's worth of showings, the opportunity to be seen on the big screen and it's nice to see some music documentaries seen as part of that series. Lemmy looks like an interesting look into the man's career of prototypical rock and roll debauchery and seeing this particular movie with a crowd seems more appropriate than streaming it through your Wii at some point.

Why bother trying to come up with a new take on a film for a paper when you can just enter the name of the movie into the Film School Thesis Statement Generator and let the magic happen from there? The site probably isn't actually helpful in any way, but it's amusing to route films that wouldn't likely be covered in any film program whatsoever through to see what comes up.
For example, "Snow Dogs contains and then breaches the achievement of a state of wholeness through its use of telling jump cuts." or "Medea Goes to Jail demystifies the achievement of a state of wholeness through its juxtaposition of poverty and nature."
Well, that part about Medea is actually true. How do you do it, Thesis Statement Generator?

I have minimal ability to be critical of anything that comes from the world of the Muppets, so my pre-endorsement of the documentary Being Elmo playing this week at Sundance is probably somewhat useless. But still, can someone at the Loft or somewhere else in this town bring this film to town? I imagine there has to be at least a theater full of Tucsonans who want to see a documentary on Kevin Clash, the puppeteer for Elmo, and how he ended up having the job of Sesame Street Muppet Captain, right?
Being Elmo from Being Elmo on Vimeo.
Lucky Sundance attendees. They got to see the movie and get caught up in a storm of adorableness. I'll just have to settle for Fraggle Rock reruns on some cable channel I wasn't aware I had until just now.
