Doors open at 5 p.m.; the LOST recap broadcast starts at 6 p.m., and the LOST series finale starts at 8 p.m. According to the Loft website there will be food and drink specials, trivia games, giveaways and "more!," but nothing about a Locke look-a-like contest or prizes for those who show up with machetes dressed as the others.
The classic Harold and Maude shows outdoors at Cinema La Placita this evening. Suggested donation: Just $3. Details here.
If memory serves, I first saw this at the pre-renovation Temple of Music Art, in my high-school days, when they used to show old flicks on weekends. (Yes, kids, that was in the days before we had VCRs!)
If you didn't catch Mr. Conservative: Goldwater on Goldwater when it aired on HBO, here's your chance to see it—and meet CC Goldwater, granddaughter of the late Barry Goldwater, who produced and narrated the film.
There's a free screening at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 21, at MountainView Country Club Ballroom, 38759 S. Mountain View Blvd., in SaddleBrooke. Light refreshments will be served.
CC will sign copies of the Mr. Conservative DVD and her grandfather’s book, Conscience of a Conservative. You'll also have a chance to meet state Rep. Nancy Young Wright and state Senate candidate Cheryl Cage.
Donations to the Tri-Community Food Bank are encouraged.
The Loft is hosting a free screening on Saturday, May 15, at 10 a.m. of Immigrant Nation!, a documentary film "about the modern immigrant rights movement. In particular, it is the story of the struggle of Elvira Arellano, a single mother from Chicago who fought her deportation. The film also interweaves the stories of individuals, organizations, activists and community leaders united by passion and a concern for justice. This film illustrates the opposition to the controversial HR 4437 immigration bill as well as the ongoing struggle and demand for comprehensive immigration reform." Congressman Raul Grijalva and director Esau Melendez will be there, too.
You can now add Hollywood to the list of places that hate Arizona. In a trailer for the new Grindhouse spinoff, Machete, actor Danny Trejo presents the Mexican-revenge-movie trailer as "a special Cinco De Mayo message ... for Arizona!"
If things keep going the way they are, "Arizona politician" will replace "corporate suit" as the go-to movie bad guy.
(Trailer is NSFW for language, 'splosions and montages.)
