Fanny packs are back in fashion. The front pouch carrier is best place to keep your personal belongings and business cards. I never realized it, but fanny packs are pretty common in the wrestling world. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Throwback Thursday fanny pack filled photo

If you that wasn't enough, here's the best wrestling themed Tumblr of the week. Some poor soul (with nothing better to do) created a Tumblr photo blog that features old school wrestlers in their fanny pack best. Who knew Hulk Hogan was a fanny pack connoisseur?

Feast your eyes, Brother:

ACLU of Arizona and the Border Action Network have put together a clever way to respond and teach folks their rights when stopped at a Border Patrol checkpoint.

The project, Border Reality, is Wednesday, July 9, from 7:39 to 10:30 a.m. at Armory Park, 221 S. 6th Ave.:

Communities border-wide, report feeling treated with suspicion by CBP and subjected to unjustified detention, invasive questioning and searches, verbal and physical abuse, excessive force and profiling. We’re here to remind individuals of their rights in the border region and listen to concerns of abuse. This effort to educate people to know their rights will be taking place in California, Texas and New Mexico border towns on July 9th as well.

Join this movement by volunteering with us July 9th from 730AM-1030AM, if interested in participating please contact Dulce Juarez at [email protected] or call 602-773-6016.

P.S. for more info about BP Checkpoints check out this New York Times article, it’s a great piece leading up to our day of action on July 9th!

We are going to take the day off at the Weekly offices, so don't expect much from us this Independence Day (unless something terrible happens). We will be too busy hanging out with family, friends and drunken strangers at our favorite dive bars. That last one might just be me, again.

You might find me at the Final 4th Ave Deli Hot Dog Shoot-Out at Che's Lounge, 350 N 4th Ave. The hotdog eating contest will start around 6 p.m. This is the place to be if you like to watch grown men stick multiple wieners in their face holes. I don't know exactly what the winner will get, but hopefully it's a free ride to the emergency room.

Here are the contestants:

1. Joe "Joe P" Paul - Won 1st by eating 9 hot dogs in Round 1.

2. Devon "3D" Duhart - Won 2nd by eating 10 hot dogs in Round 1.

3. Paul Slankerd - Won 1st by eating 10 hot dogs in Round 2.

4. Christopher "C-$" Hecke - Won 2nd by eating 8 hot dogs in Round 2.

5. Dustin Cox - Won 1st by eating 10 hot dogs in Round 3.

6. Ryan "The Great Hambeeno" Hanson - Won 2nd by eating 9 hot dogs in Round 3.

7. Erich "Wolfenstine" Goodenkauf - Wildcard - Top 3rd place contestant (Round 2) by eating 6 hot dogs.

8. Daiken the Doorman of Che's - Wildcard.

Here's a cool event taken from our City Week section:

Each year, Arts Express presents "Let Freedom Sing," a patriotic musical performance held on July 4. The event begins at 3 p.m., in front of Centennial Hall, 1020 E. University Blvd., where concertgoers will see a life-size cardboard replica of the airplane Spirit of St. Louis. During the concert, there will be a video reenactment of parachuting onto the beach at Normandy to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

It's not easy being green. Sing along with Kermit and the rest of the Muppets at The Loft's Muppet Movie Sing-Along at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 28. The Loft is located at 3233 E. Speedway Blvd. Tickets are $8 general, $6 Loft members and children 12 and younger.

Here's an event description:
Everyone can find the Rainbow Connection at The Loft Cinema when The Muppet Movie Sing-A-Long hits the screen! This totally “gonzo” interactive screening of the one-and-only original Muppet Movie will feature onscreen lyrics to all the film’s classic songs like “The Rainbow Connection,” “Movin’ Right Along,” “Can You Picture That?” and more! Audiences can belt out their favorite tunes in their best Muppet voices and compete in the World’s Biggest Muppet Fan contest before the movie! The person wearing the most Muppet-rageous outfit that proves they are the World’s Biggest Muppet Fan will win a fabulous Muppet-related prize! And everyone will receive a FREE rainbow glow stick to help light up the fun!

Here's a movie description:
In The Muppet Movie, the first of the Muppets’ big screen adventures, Kermit dreams of leaving behind his humble life as a banjo-pickin’ swamp frog to find fame and fortune in glorious Tinseltown! Hitting the road to stardom, he meets his new pals Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Rowlf, Gonzo and the rest of the gang, and together they embark on a crazy cross-country quest to find the rainbow connection and take Hollywood by storm, hoping to become the big time stars of their very own movie! The only catch is the menacing fast food franchiser Doc Hopper, who follows the Muppets’ every move as he tries to turn Kermit into the unwilling spokes-frog for his new line of fried frogs’ legs! But have no fear – our irrepressible heroes will just keep “Movin’ right along in search of good times and good news,” so the chances are good that everything is going to work out just fine! Featuring an all-star cast of supporting humans including Mel Brooks, Madeline Kahn, Steve Martin, Richard Pryor and Orson Wells, The Muppet Movie is pure movie magic for kids (and adults) of all ages! (Dir. by James Frawley, 1979, USA, 95 mins., Rated G) Digital
