I forgot how much I love reggae. I know it's ridiculous to admit, but I didn't realize it until this past New Year's Eve party at the big tiki head on Fourth Avenue. If you feel like you need a reminder, reggae returns from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. this Friday, Jan. 10, at the Hut, 305 N. Fourth Ave. Bass Culture and my friends from One Heart Beat are headlining. Also DJs Papa Ranger and Jahmar "Party God" International from 12 Tribes Sound will be spinning reggae hits for our dancing pleasure, man.

Local fashion designer and business owner Eleanor Leon is showcasing local artist and designers this Second Saturday at 6 p.m. at La Fashionista, 45 S. Sixth Ave. The event will be catered by Whole Foods. Leon invited over 26 artists, photographers, models and musicians that are proudly representing the local arts scene in Southern Arizona.

We are hosting monthly happy hours at various dive bars around Tucson to celebrate our "Dirty 30" all year long. The endless Birthday madness will occur every second Wednesday starting on Jan. 8 at the World Famous Golden Nugget, 2617 N. 1st Ave.

There will be Birthday cake, prizes and drink specials. You better brush up on your shuffleboard skills because we are hosting a friendly shuffleboard tournament! The winner doesn't have to kiss Dan Gibson, but you can if you want to. Here's your chance to tell that registered Republican what you really think about the Weekly since he took over.

The drinking and good times will start at 5:30 p.m.

Jacob Breckenridge and Pauly Casillas are hosting an extra special Switch comedy show tonight at Plush, 340 East 6th St. Phoenix comedians Matt Storrs and Eric Biez are the special guest headliners. I'm going to perform some improve comedy with fellow local comedians Michael Cheli, Amanda Hurley, Michael Dean, Justin Tietjin, Josiah Osego and Ryan Malchow will shoot from the hip and take the stage at 9 p.m.

• Tonight North, GODHUNTER, Anakim and Territory are playing a free show at Club Congress.

Local metal band North is commencing their tour tonight at Club Congress, 311 East Congress. The opening acts include GODHUNTER, Anakim and Territory. You can windmill your long hair and throw the devil horns on a budget.

Dan Hernandez has the night off, so he got some friends together and decided to throw a New Year's Eve party at Plush, 340 East Sixth St. Hernandez and four of Tucson DJs are going to mix the night away. The party starts at 9 p.m. with the Weekly's Dewtron. Following Casey will be Plastic Disease, Danh, Herm and E_Rupt will close the show.

There will be a celebratory toast at midnight, so don't forget to bring someone to kiss and stuff.

Tickets are only $5.

Tucson is the most cost effective place to party this New Years Eve.

I'm grateful that I don't have to sink as low as paying $375 to attend a NYE bash at Applebee's. Thankfully, The Loft Cinema is infinitely more cooler than the chain restaurant because they are hosting a free NYE preparty at 9 p.m. in Mooney's Backlot behind screen three.

Bridgette Thum is inviting some of funniest friends and various hosts from the other Loft Happy Tuesday shows. Thum answers postcards people write her and responds with a witty, insightful thought following a viral video, but tonight she is sharing the best letters and videos of the year. There will be live musical performances, beer and wine.

The Loft is screening the cult classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail at midnight. There will be NYE party favors and hor d'oeuvers available during the pre-show at 11 p.m.

Today is the last day to get $5 off your ticket for the NYE Burlesque Bash that is taking place at Playground Bar and Lounge, 278 East Congress St.

Pisa Cake and eight of Arizona's finest burlesque entertainers are hosting two shows in one night. The headliner is Phoenix's "Purrr-fect Ecdysiast," Kitty Victorian. There will be performances by Lela Rose, Crystal Kiss, Pearl Necklace, Robin Harts, Luna De Lumbre, Wanda Pout and Fifi Fiesta.

Phoenix electronic-folk band Bogan Via and Sun Bones are performing tonight at Plush Tucson, 340 E. Sixth St. This is Sun Bones' first show before they embark on their tour through Texas and Oklahoma. The magic starts at 9 p.m. $5 tickets at the door.

Local bands Dream Sick, The Pork Torta and Union Pacific's Zach Vito are playing a free Christmas show at Hotel Congress, 311 E. Congress St.
