Loft Staff Selects is a new series kicking off tonight at the Loft Cinema. They're handing over the wheel to the staff for one night a month, letting them program the movie of their choice. The series starts with Tobe Hooper's (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) 1986 action-packed remake of Invaders From Mars, starring Louise Fletcher, Hunter Carson, and the recently deceased cult actress Karen Black. Trust me, any movie that features Louise Fletcher in full Nurse Ratched mode gulping down a living, breathing, squirming frog is worth watching.

Almost anywhere you put your foot down here, especially anywhere downtown, you're in the footsteps of a good four or five thousand years of folks who led the way. Preservation archaeologist and digital-media specialist Doug Gann reveals what we know about what's underfoot in a presentation "You Are Here: Virtual Tucson" at 7 p.m. tonight at Maker House, 283 N. Stone Ave.

SlutWalk has returned, and this year it begins at the UA Women's Plaza of Honor next to Centennial Hall, 4:30 p.m. with a march starting at 5 p.m. and ending at Fluxx Studio and Gallery off Fourth Avenue.

From organizers:

SlutWalk is a protest, a rally, and a demonstration of frustration and anger. We are protesting the blaming of victims of sexual violence. NO ONE is responsible for violence perpetrated against them, no matter what they wear, who they associate with, or who they are.

SlutWalk Tucson 2013 begins at the University of Arizona Women's Plaza of Honor (near Centennial Hall). We will begin gathering at 4:30pm and the march will start at 5. The march will go down University Boulevard, towards 4th Avenue, then towards Congress and will end at Fluxx Studio. After the march, everyone is invited to return to 4th Avenue for dinner, a speak out, and afterparty at Fluxx Studio & Gallery. If you cannot stay after the march, we will have transportation available to take you from Fluxx back to the University.

Keep local comedy alive.

Posted By on Fri, Nov 15, 2013 at 1:00 PM

Joey G is putting together another big comedy show from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, November 17 at Laffs Comedy Cafe, 2900 E. Broadway.

This show highlights local comedians like improv actress and KFMA morning show co-host Mishell Livio. You might have seen Pauly Casillas open for the funniest man on Twitter Rob DelaneyJacob Breckenridge has been doing stand up in this city since he was in highschool, and has since performed at big venues like the Comedy Store and Laugh Factory in California. Josiah Osego was the winner of the 2012 "Amatuer Island" competition at Laffs. I'm going to tell some jokes and do some impressions, and the headliner for the evening is Robert Rodriguez.

The first two people that email me at [email protected] will win a pair of tickets to the show. Godspeed.

You’re lucky. I’m lucky. We’re all lucky because there are two great shows happening tonight. One is at Plush on 4th Avenue and 6th Street. The other is at Topaz on St. Mary’s at I-10. So prepare to zig-zag back and forth because you’ll be sorry if you miss either. You have problems? I have solutions.

Problem #1: You’re in love with Matt Baquet. You’re kicking yourself because you missed him playing with Dream Sick last night at the Food Truck Roundup.

Solution: You can see Matt hit drums and sometimes miss cymbals with Prom Body at Topaz. Also on the bill are AZ77, Weed, Otherly Love, and Hellshovel. $5 will get you into this all-ages (beer bar with ID) event.
