Show off your pumpkin carving skills Friday Oct. 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Maker House, 283 N. Stone Ave.

I try my hardest to find family friendly events around town, but sometimes I feel like I live on the Las Vegas strip. Halloween is right around the corner and here's this is the place to be if you want to make the spookiest jack o' lantern on the block. Click here to RSVP on Facebook.

A couple of people I know actually got through on healthcare.gov yesterday. Most importantly, they were able to complete the process. Is that light we see at the end of the tunnel? Seriously, though: Who was really surprised we couldn't all get on there at once?

Luckily, there are people right here in the Old Pueblo standing by to help us out while we're waiting. Today, for instance, trained advisers can give you one-on-one help after Alison Hughes, former faculty member of the UA's Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, presents "How to Access the Health Insurance Marketplace" from 11:30 to 1 p.m., at the Woods Memorial Branch Library, 3455 N. First Ave.; and from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Murphy-Wilmot Branch Library, 530 N. Wilmot Road.

The Santa Cruz Valley Heritage Alliance is a terrific organization that works to promote tourism, local food harvesting and other economic-development efforts in Southern Arizona. You can learn more about what they're up to here, but suffice to say that the non-profit does good work.

You can help them out and have a fun evening by buying a ticket to the Santa Cruz Harvest Dinner. Full disclosure: I'm on the host committee, so I'm a bit biased, but it looks like a great event at downtown's historic Steinfield Warehouse. The dinner will come from locally sourced ingredients from local Iron Chef Ryan Clark and the gang at Little Cafe Poca Cosa; the spirits are from local breweries and vineyards; the desert will be coming from Isabella's Ice Cream; and there will be some spectacular stuff up for bid in a silent auction. All in all, it's gonna be a great evening for a great cause, so don't miss it.

It all goes down from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20. For more info, click here. And act now: You need to purchase your tickets by this Saturday, Oct. 12.

Tucson Comic-Con is right around the corner and you know what that means. It's almost time for you to dress up like your favorite comic book character for two days Nov. 2 and 3 at the Tucson Convention Center, 260 S. Church Ave.

I regularly attend San Diego Comic-Con and various other show around the country but nothing beats Tucson Con. I enjoy this show not because I was one of the organizers for three years, but because I can walk there. There's a lot of great local comic book artist and some big names like Matt Hawkins from Top Cow. Come down in your best cosplay outfit and maybe you will win the costume contest.

Tickets went on sale this morning. You can buy your tickets at ticketmaster or at the door. Tickets are $8 for single day or $10 for the weekend, and free for children 10 and younger.

The Switch is like 'Who's Line is it Anyway,' but full of drunk comedians.

Posted By on Mon, Oct 7, 2013 at 2:30 PM

Tonight Jacob Breckenridge and Pauly Casillas are hosting their free monthly comedy show The Switch at Plush Tucson, 340 E. Sixth St. Doors open at 9 p.m.

This isn't your regular comedy show because the comedians can't perform their regular material. Pauly and Jacob throw up topics on a screen and the comedian has to make a joke on the spot. The audience (no matter how bad) is encouraged to text topics. I have performed in this show before and it's refreshing to have to come up with material on the spot and not perform my regular material. All the comedians that are scheduled to perform are all stellar comedians (some tend to stretch their time but I won't say names) and there's drink special for Sleepy Dog Leg Humper.

Many mainstream faiths believe that people are made in The Creator's image, and we are all very much loved. If God our parent is capable of consternation, though, surely the bigotry and violence humans inflict on each other must make freewill seem like a questionable gift.

Here's your chance to meet the cast and crew from the martial arts "classic" Return of the Kung Fu Dragon!

It's not really a "classic" nor will the REAL actors or directory be there. Some of the super funny and talented improve actors from the Tucson Improv Movement will screen clips of the film and provide mock DVD commentary as the cast and crew. Behind The Screens is apart of the weekly Happy Tuesdays free comedy shows held in Mooney's Backlot behind screen #3 at The Loft Cinema, 1103 N. Camilla Blvd. The doors open at 8 p.m.
