Indie/Alt Band, Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers, are playing tonight at Club Congress. The catchy band has been doing their own music and touring since 2008, (and went viral in 2012, with their cover-song videos, entitled: "Van Sessions" with this Hall and Oates remake), are making their first appearance in Tucson. The 21 and Over show starts at 7:00p.m. and the cost is $10. Now I CAN go for that! For tickets go here.

If sci-fi murder mystery comedies set in the future are your thing, you'd do well to check out Heavy Nova playing at the Crossroads Cinema on Saturday night. The best part? It's written, directed by and starring Tucsonans!

I appreciate the Dark Star meets Outland vibe, and the humor looks to be slightly off-centerish. Co-writer and director Peter Leon is quoted as saying "Heavy Nova is a social commentary wrapped inside enough dick jokes to satisfy any 15-year-old boy." So, there you go.

Check out the NSFW trailer:

The show starts at 9:00 p.m. and tickets are $7. A Q&A with cast and crew follows the film. RSVP on Facebook here.

This is it folks. You can catch the last episode of AMC's Breaking Bad at 7:45 p.m. this Sunday at Espresso Art Café, 944 E University Blvd.

This is ideal if you're like me and wait for the latest season to hit Netflix, but can't wait that long because the internet and all your friends keep spoiling the show for you. I'm not sure if I want to sit in a roomful of college kids blowing smoke in my face, but I can't afford cable and my options are limited.

I really love this new video on Tucson Meet Yourself, probably because it's one of my favorite Tucson events to share with friends and my son. Every year is a different experience for us because my son experiences it differently as he grows older—what foods he's more willing to try, what crafts he's interested in and what music he wants to sit and listen to.

This year's festival in downtown's El Presidio Park is from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, and Saturday, Oct. 12, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13.

To honor the festival's 40th anniversary, UA Special Collections is doing a retrospective exhibit, 40 Years of Tucson Meet Yourself, at 1510 E. University Blvd. through Jan. 10, 2014.

Bridgitte Thum is hosting her monthly comedy show "Lonely Hearts Club" tonight at The Loft Cinema in the Mooney Backlot Bar & Lounge located behind screen #3. Thum is like the underground Delilah Rene, but with liquid courage to boot:

In this busy town, there are lots of broken hearts and heart breakers. Lonely people, if you want to laugh at emotional trauma, heartache and betrayal come join the club. Bridgitte Thum will find the silver lining in your dirty laundry and inspire you to go out and love again. Fill out a brief request card and Bridgitte will consider your video dedications. Love is in the air and on the air.

I sent a letter once, and she responded with a very thoughtful video that included superheroes speed dating. It's a great place to mingle with other broken hearted fools and feel like you belong. The event is free to attend, and the doors open at 8 p.m.

I try to find stuff to do that isn't always located in the downtown/metro area, but nothing's normally happening past Speedway on a school night. Tom Potter is performing at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Community Performance and Art Center, 1250 W. Continental Road, Green Valley.

Tom Potter is a former college dean and professor who began his career in comedy in 1989. As a professional actor and comedian, Tom has worked with the best including Jay Leno & Jeff Dunham, and can be seen in a variety of film and television projects including The Skeleton Key, Days That Shook the World, Man-Eater and Who’s Your Daddy?. He also performed for ten years at The Gaslight Theatre. Tom has combined his 1960’s rocker roots, his stand-up comedy and his love of the blues into COMEDY BLUES and a new one man show, Laughing Away the Blues, which highlights the benefits of laughter and ways to laugh more.

I performed stand up with Potter at the shortly lived "Laughing Liberally" shows, so his political/musical humor should make for an interesting night. Tickets are only $15 over the phone or $20 cash at the door. Call 399-1750 or visit performingartscenter.org for more information.

Send me an email at [email protected] and tell me what's going on in your neck of the desert.
