In the past year the food bank has experienced a 10 percent increase in requests for help than the previous 12 months.
But you—yes you, right there!—can help out on this Thursday, Nov. 15. The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona is hosting their annual "Thanksgiving on the Mayflower" event at the Sprouts (formerly known as Sunflower Market) parking lot on North First Avenue and East Limberlost Drive. They'll be out before sunrise and after sunset, 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., and enjoying tuneage from 94.9 MIXfm.
The goal is to fill the Mayflower (semi-truck, not colonial ship) with tasty non-perishables. If you'd rather pull out your wallet than tote grocery bags, they will also be accepting cash donations. The food bank does a little magic and can distribute $9 worth of food for every $1 donated, according to their website.
In addition, Tucson Electric Power will match donations received on site. That's double the warm fuzzy feeling!
For more information, head on over to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona website.

Seeing legendary producer/director Roger Corman at the Loft last night was great. He seemed to be a delightful gentleman who truly loves making movies. I enjoyed Death Race 2000 last night, but for me, the real thrill was seeing Corman's Masque of the Red Death on the big screen this morning. I have fond memories of watching all those Corman adaptations of Edgar Allen Poe stories as a kid in this town, in those dark days before VCRs and cable when all you had was four or five TV stations and those creature feature movies on a Saturday night were the height of cinematic excitement.
The Loft's film fest is continuing tonight through Thursday, Nov. 15. I'm looking forward to John Dies at the End Tonight. (I guess those Corman movies as a kid shaped a lot of my cinema tastes today...) Director Don Coscarelli, known for his work on the Phantasm films and Bubba Ho-Tep, is gonna be there to talk about the film.
There's a whole bunch of other stuff that's worth checking out, even if John Dies at the End isn't down your alley. There's a full day of films tomorrow, including the apocalyptic comedy It's a Disaster with David Cross and Julia Stiles, and then the Doors concert film on Tuesday night. Check out the whole schedule here.
The Loft Film Fest continues today with all kinds of great picture shows, including an appearance by legendary director Roger Corman tonight.
The Range made it over to the Loft last night for the very first film projected on the new Screen 3. Peggy and her crew have done an astounding job of transforming the former auto-repair garage into a theatre with plush and comfy seats, stadium seating, and great design that incorporates elements of the old garage—including some old iron support beams that give it a nice, industrial look. A Liar's Autobiography, the Graham Chapman biopic, looked spectacular in 3D. Congrats, Peggy!
We also enjoyed the wonderful collection of Roger Corman trailers that were shown in the party tent outside. Here's our vote for a few encore screenings of those this weekend!
Lots more good stuff on tap, including Corman's World tonight, as well as Death Race 2000. For those interested in more cerebral fare, Wrong looks really great.
But that's just the tip of the cinematic iceberg. Check out the whole schedule here and get over to the Loft for a movie!

Why yes, we at Weekly World Central are indeed jazzed about the opportunity to wander the streets of Tucson, tasting some of the city's best coffee.
Tomorrow, Nov. 10, coffee shops from Downtown Tucson to the University area out to the Campbell Ave. corridor are going to be opening their doors to caffeine fans, offering tastings, cuppings, lectures and workshops, as well as discounts on whole bean coffee.
Shops and roasters that have committed to the Coffee Crawl include Caffe Luce, Raging Sage, eXo Roast Co. (which Adam Borowitz recently raved about), Cartel Coffee Lab, Sparkroot and Brewd, who will be hosting Adventure Coffee Roasting. 47 Scott will also be joining in, featuring Yellow Brick Coffee.
Events look to be scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and are mostly free (though the Coffee Crawl website warns that cuppings are set to cost a dollar, so it might help to have cash on hand.
For more info, head to either the Tucson Coffee Crawl website or Facebook page.

The Weekly has a big cover story on the third annual Loft Film Festival, which begins tonight with A Royal Affair, which was a big winner at this year's Berlin Film Festival.
Loft programming director Jeff Yanc had this to say about A Royal Affair:
This is the Danish Oscar submission this year. It's an 18th-century historical film, very juicy. It looks at love and politics. It's a love triangle with an insane king and a queen and a German physician, and trouble ensues, of course.
There's a whole bunch more on tap, including tomorrow's grand opening of Screen 3, the Loft's new theater. Check out the festival schedule here. There's something for everyone at the festival, so get over there sometime this weekend, OK?

Tired of the blanket of political bullshit we've all been under the past year? Yeah, of course you are, which is why you need to come down to Spoke6, 439 N. Sixth Ave., today to bask in Kyle Durrie's Moveable Type Project.
The mobile print shop travels around the country in an old delivery truck bringing the wonder of the craft of press and letterpress printing. At Spoke6 there will be printing demos, studios tours of the truck, and a chance to get your hands dirty.
For more info, go here, and make a plan to regain some humanity post-election season with Moveable Type. Hallelujah.

The Election Party at Club Congress tomorrow night is probably the best way to wait for the results. The polls have been showing a very close race, and the road leading to tomorrow has been a stressful one. It's better to go out, grab some drinks, and listen to fun music as the who-the-hell-will-be-our-next-president countdown begins, instead of vegging out in your living room-. Especially if the results are unfavorable to your candidate, what better way to get over it (at least for the night) than with a pinneaple vodka or gin and tonic.
There will be a huge screen out on the patio for everyone to watch the live coverage, tasty snacks and those awesome drink specials Congress is known for. My guess is the party will be filled with Obama supporters because Romney simpaticos don't seem to have too much fun (but just know that the invitation is also open to you and please correct me if my assumption is wrong).
It also doesn't hurt that this is a free event. Remember though, things kick off at 6 p.m.
