Some Love from A Lull on Vimeo.
You're in for double the fun at Club Congress' show tonight at 6:30 p.m. A Lull bring their winter 2012 tour to Tucson along with the band, Deleted Scenes..
There's something about A Lull that reminds me of Iron and Wine - and that's a good thing. The alternative-rock band uses softer vocals that blend in with their songs' melodies and varying rhythms. Here's what Ilene D. Palacios with Gozamos says about their album, Confetti:
The flavorful ingredients of this album are adventurous and diverse. There are elements of Ambient, Noise, Folk and Shoegaze all in an Experimental concoction. Each beautifully crafted song also contains complex layering of instruments and sounds, such as echoed pieces, industrial beats, fuzzy percussion and complicated harmonies. A Lull also music-ifies random sounds like breaking bottles, the crunch of garbage bags and what I think is an old ringing phone. The end of “Water & Beasts” seems to do opposite and use instruments to emulate an accidentally melodic printer rhythmically rolling out pages.

The word "raw" doesn't even begin to describe the musical style of Clarence Greenwood, aka Citizen Cope.
Though he has been compared to artists like Neil Young and Van Morrison, Cope's music has that "different" but brilliant style—the kind you don't hear every day. And while his music is often classified as blues or soft rock, it doesn't seem to mimic anything in particular. It's a mixed-genre of its own.
Cope plays songs that you can't help but bob your head and tap your foot to. He writes lyrics that someone would purposely choose to listen to because they sound real and emotional.
Don't miss his stop in Tucson on Saturday at 8 p.m. For ticket info, visit the Rialto Theatre website.

Betsy Scarinzi, singer-songwriter of alt-country band Silverbell, brings together raw vocals, acoustic guitar and a group of talented musicians at Club Congress at 8 p.m. this Friday for free concert to celebrate the release of a new album, Whitewashed Heart.
Gene Armstrong notes in this week's TW:
Singer-songwriter Betsy Scarinzi has the rare and preternatural ability to use melody to wring poetry from common language and weighty emotions. This is well displayed in her Americana-tinged rock-band Silverbell, which have just released their debut album.Scarinzi says she does not have a secret formula for making up songs. "There's no thought process or breaking it down like that. If I have something on my mind, I guess I start singing about it."

The Earth Walk Performance Series kicks off tonight, at 6 p.m., at Club Congress, 311 E. Congress St. $12 to $22.
Storyteller, drummer and healing arts practitioner Brian Rohr will talk, drum and tell stories from the oral traditions of the world in his performance, "Stoking the Fire, Stringing the Harp."
"It is our time to heal our relationship with the sacred and the living world," says Rohr. "We need to dance with our fire and our shadows, for in this way we reveal our gold ... and the world is hungry for us to be living our gold. By doing this through story and in community, we find what is common and unique of our human condition. And in this way, we become more than just audience, we become participants in this ancient act, feeding our soul with the nourishment gifted by our ancestors."
Blown Seals, an up-and-coming local acoustic duo will perform, and leaders of Earthwalk will discuss the Soul Walk component of Earthwalk, which takes place in April.

The MarchFourth Marching Band brings together a lively mix of bold costumes, trumpets, horns, guitars, fire and flag dancers, stliltwalkers, acrobats to the Rialto Theatre this Thursday.
Here's what Erika Fredrickson with the Missoula Independent says about the instrumental brass band, "M4":
M4's versatility and boldness is one thing, but part of the fun is focusing on the sheer size of the endeavor. It's not just about the spectacle of horns and crazy costumes, it's about taking people's assumption about what you can do in a bar for entertainment—a five-piece band, for instance—and multiplying that six times over. Now you've got a whole crowd entertaining you. It's like a joke about screwing in light bulbs or how many clowns can fit in a car: It's over-the-top.

Sublime is coming to Tucson. Sort of.
While Sublime is best known as the popular ska-punk band of the 'late 90s, their name was changed to "Sublime with Rome" when Rome Ramirez took over as frontman after Bradley Nowell's death. Though most die-hard fans (no pun intended) agree that Ramirez can't take his place, many may be OK with the fact that Sublime's music lives on.
Can Ramirez hold a candle to Nowell? You decide.
Tickets are available starting Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. For more information, visit the Rialto's website.
