If you haven't already decided to go to one or more nights of The Great Cover Up this weekend, I'm sorry that you make bad decisions that negatively affect your happiness and hope that one day you will realize the error of your ways.
Otherwise, if you are smart and good looking (like all Great Cover Up attendees are), the schedule of which bands are being covered when — for your planning needs — is below the cut.

Emma tops the recently released list of the most popular baby names for 2011, which means every other kid entering kindergarten in 2016 will be fighting for the lunchbox marked with the letter E.
The most popular list of baby names is released annually by BabyCenter.com and it can be a very helpful tool for parents — when it comes to knowing what not to name their kids going forward.
Top names for 2011 for little girls kick off with Emma, and then continue through the top five with other names ending in A. Emma is followed by Olivia, Sophia, Isabella and Ava. Taking up the rear through slot number eight are Madison, Emily and Ella.
Mason tops of the list of popular little boy names, followed by Liam, Noah, Ethan and Jacob. Aiden, Jackson and Logan complete the top eight.
This is not to say that any of these names are not beautiful or cool. One of my childhood cat’s three names was Mason and Jimi Hendrix really belts it out when he’s screaming for “Izabella” (although the name has an alternate spelling).

Not together, but you might want to get your 2012 datebook out, because the events are starting to pile up in the first half of next year.
The Rialto announced two shows today, the first of which is Childish Gambino, actor/comedian Donald Glover's hip hop project on April 10th. Pitchfork didn't like his latest album, Camp, but it should be an interesting show as Glover explores topics including Asian women and the struggle of being a nerd in rap culture.
Ten days later, Andrew Bird returns to town on April 20th, promoting his new album Break It Yourself, which comes out in March. As an extra bonus, if you buy a ticket for his show at the Rialto, you get a digital copy of the album for free as well as a live EP from his last tour and another live EP (which you'd receive in the spring) with material from this tour. Laura Marling opens for Bird, which is great news as well.
Tickets for both shows go on sale this Friday at 10 am.
On a nearly entirely different note, Noam Chomsky will be coming to Centennial Hall as part of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences' Lecture Series, speaking on the topic "Education for Whom and for What?" on February 8th. The event is free and Chomsky will answer questions from the audience following his presentation.

In December of last year, I wrote about Victor Shamas, a UA prof in the psychology department. Read it here. He is the author of The Way of Play: Reclaiming Divine Fun and Celebration.
This semester, he is co-teaching an honors seminar at the university entitled, "Innovation and the Creative Process." Students in this seminar will be presenting their final projects from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 29, in McClelland 208a.
Shamas writes, "The format is much like a science fair, with individual stations for each presentation. We have some very off-beat and intriguing presentations this year, including one student who has been posing as an altruistic superhero named 'The Incredible Help' and another who is turning the entire University of Arizona campus into a giant hopscotch course."
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, email Shamas at [email protected].

"A man who sees the future"—Warren Ellis—is the subject of tonight's film at the Screening Room. Ellis is a comic-book writer and proclaimed cyberpunk philosopher. The film, Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts, screens at 8 p.m. at 127 E. Congress St. Admission is $5. Money will be raised for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. Ticket holders will be entered into a drawing to win prizes from the film's sponsors.
Here's information from a press release:
The film features the most extensive interview Ellis has ever given, and spans his life, from his first memory watching the moon landing as a child, to his recent cross-media success with the film adaptation of Red. Along the way, Ellis’s acerbic wit and core belief in humanity comes across like never before.Complimenting Ellis’s own words are interviews with his artistic collaborators, friends and admirers from across all media, including actress Helen Mirren, Director Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer), comedian Patton Oswalt, Adult Film Star Stoya, Musician Claudio Sanchez (of Coheed and Cambria), comics writers Matt Fraction and Antony Johnston, and futurist Jamais Cascio. Ellis's comics collaborators like Marvel Comics CCO Joe Quesada, artists Darick Robertson, Ben Templesmith and Phil Jimenez also provide insight into Ellis's mind and creative workings. The film features numerous ambient interludes that spotlight Ellis’s prose and writing from both his online columns and his comics.
The film was shot over the course of 2010 and 2011 in England, San Diego and New York. It was completed in Fall 2011 and premiered at the Napa Valley Film Festival in November 2011. It is currently screening around the world.
