On the Brink, Unconstellating: Messages from Tucson Poets. Head on over to Tucson's Museum of Contemporary Art for a night of poetry and pondering. Described by event organizers as a reading with local writers "sustaining an address to the specters of collapse present in the ecologies we inhabit in the Southwest, animated by hauntologies of precarity and pastoral grievances against the indigenous, the farmer, the waterways, the bees and their foremothers." Woah, if the poetry is half as beautiful as that intro, then we are in for a great night. Readings by Raquel Gutiérrez, Brandon Shimoda, Claire Meuschke and Miranda Trimmier will take place from 6 to 8p.m. 265 S. Church Ave. Details here.
Girls' Night Out. Sometimes scheduling time in our lives to spend time with friends is difficult, and scheduling time for yourself can be even harder. Bill & Ted's Excellent Double Feature. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves as the embodiment (and parody) of high schoolers in the '80s, this double feature of both Bill & Ted films will get you ready for the third installment in the series. Em Bowen and Friends: The Liberal Agenda, a feminist comedy show. In celebration of Pride Month, Crooked Tooth Brewing Company is hosting a special comedy event. Hosted by local comedian, educator and writer Em Bowen, the show will include Mo Urban, Chinna Garza, Amber Frame and Noel Hennessey. 8 p.m. at 228 E. 6th St. Details here.
2.8 Million Gallon Release. As part of the Santa Cruz River Heritage Project, 2.8 million gallons of water per day will be released into the Santa Cruz river bed. The water is hoped to bring a consistently flowing river to the heart of Tucson, and this is something that has people celebrating. Hispanic Access Foundation, Watershed Management Group, 40 Pastors from the Tucson Evangelical Pastoral Association and Por la Creación Faith-based Alliance are celebrating from noon to 5:30 p.m. with tours at the Living Lab and Learning Center at Watershed Management Group and Mission Gardens. Hotel McCoy is celebrating the new river right in their neighborhood with a celebration from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The water is set to be released at 4:30 p.m. and can be viewed at 1580 S. When shy Scotty Smalls is pulled in for a game of baseball by the local kids, he doesn't know that he's in for the summer of his childhood. He borrows his step-dad's ball signed by the legendary Babe Ruth for the game one day, and accidentally hits it in to scary Mr. Myrtle's yard. Scarier yet is his enormous dog, "The Beast," who the boys have to get the baseball from.
The Sandlot is the quintessential summer movie, about childhood, adventure and belonging.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on, and grab a Sonoran dog from You Sly Dog's food truck or some dessert from Sarge's Cheesecakes to snack on during the movie. (Directed by David M. Evans, 1993, 101 min. Rated PG so it's perfect for kids).

Summer Story Time is in full swing at Sabino Canyon! Children, ages 3 to 7 are welcomed to the Sabino Canyon Visitor Center for free story telling each week for June and July. Every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., kids can hear stories, play games, do arts and crafts and other activities based on the theme of the week, from tortoises to quail. This week's theme is Night Animals!

Southern Arizona Senior Pride Book Club. Happy LGBTQ+ pride month! One of the ways our local senior pride group is celebrating is by reading a true classic in their book club: Gustave Flaubert’s Madame Bovary. Here’s a line from it: “One’s duty is to feel what is great, cherish the beautiful, and to not accept the conventions of society with the ignominy that it imposes upon us.” Hear, hear! Taco Tuesday at Batch: Borracho Edition. Batch Cafe & Bar are pairing up with Barrio Brewing to make a taco and beer flight. Each of the three tacos features a different meat, and every beer is a different style. Return to Earth. The Sonoran Desert Mountain Bicyclists group are hosting the Tucson premiere of this documentary featuring some of the best mountain bikers in the world. Open Studios Under the Full Moon. Metal Arts Village is having their open studios under the full moon this Monday and what a great way to spend your Monday night! Get outside once the sun has gone down and meet local artists, listen to live music, eat great food and take in the magic of the moon. What do you do?
I’m a singer-songwriter, musician and I paint on occasion.
How did you start playing trumpet? How long have you been playing?
I started getting lessons from my Dad when I was 7. Me and Vince (my trumpet) have been on and off and on since then.
How would you describe your poetry?
Oafish, huffy and bashful.
How would you describe your music?
Maybe like sloppy soul?
How did you get involved with Black Renaissance?
Seanloui came to one of my gigs and was gracious enough to connect me to it.
What does Black Renaissance mean to you?
An intentional space to celebrate black community, curated by the black community. It’s warm and wholesome and we need more of it, honestly.
What can we expect from your next performance at the final Black Renaissance event?
You can expect reverb. I, as always, expect people not to clap outta time, or even at all.
What do you want to give the audience with your performance? How do you want them to feel when they leave?
Optimally, we were able to be present to each other in a real kinda way. Optimally, we leave with a less colonized (or colonizer) state of mind. Optimally, you vibe with some groove and felt safe enough to be emotionally available.
What other projects are you currently working on?
Tryna' make more songs and art, that’s pretty much it.
