The Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show (which has earned the prized endorsement of The Range previously) has a great interview with Steve Heinrich, the head writer and some other stuff at Jellyvision, the company behind You Don't Know Jack. I recognize, again, that it's possible I'm the only person who cares about an extensive discussion of the "Question Four" musical segue used on YDJK: The Ride, but so be it.

After a spectacular run in the second half of the 90's as a series of PC games (seriously, I loved these games so much and not just because I was super-good at them), the brand faded a bit when consoles took over and after a TV version didn't pan out, but now there's a five question version on Facebook that's quite a bit of fun, which is weird to say about any game hosted on Facebook. It's worth a few semi-wasted moments each day online.

Most people would agree that Detroit is not the prettiest city in the U.S. Abandoned buildings litter sections the city, making it look a little post-apocalyptic in places. This dismal landscape is the perfect scene for a zombie-infested area. I'd thought this after I saw "I Am Legend" years ago, and it looks like I'm not the only one anymore.

A group of unconventional entrepreneurs have proposed taking those unused buildings and constructing a zombie-themed park called Z World Detroit. People could spend a night in Motor City and pretend that they're survivors of a zombie apocalypse, struggling to fend of hordes of the walking undead. I think it would be a brilliant way for the city to make use of all those buildings that are doing nothing more than slowly wasting away. If you're interested in checking the progress or helping fund this project, head over to the Z World Detroit Indiegogo page.

In San Diego last night, a glitch turned one of the nation's largest fireworks shows into a very short spectacle of a lot of stuff exploding at once. At least we know what that looks like now, right?

Courtesy of RAYGUNshirts in Des Moines, Iowa, here's our Fourth of July greeting to you, our beloved readers.

Probably no Range content on the holiday itself, although this week's issue will be online at some point Wednesday, but you never know. Feel free to leave your browser on our homepage, refreshing the screen every fifteen minutes, just in case.

[You don't really need to do that.]

I didn't realize this would become a theme today (previously in the series), but tomorrow's some sort of patriotic holiday by my understanding, so why not pretend that Bill Clinton is a fan of French electronic pop?

When Republicans go on and on about the glory of the Reagan administration, I get somewhat confused, mostly because my memories of the era are largely focused on the game shows I used to watch then and not on political history. However, now that artist Jason Heuser has captured the historical moment when the late President rode a velociraptor while brandishing a machine gun, likely attacking communists or people in Grenada or something. I totally get it. Gentle jelly-bean loving grandpa by day, American bad-ass by night. It all makes so much more sense now.

While I don't ever actually go, unless my son is going to a birthday party or fundraiser, I still consider myself a fan of Skate County. I spent a ridiculous amount of time there in the mid-80's, I've gone to the effort of getting prices to rent the place out for a surreal adult birthday party, and I occasionally dream of a second chance at roller rink DJing.

Anyhow, when I saw the above Facebook update, I had to wonder if I was missing out on something by having absolutely no idea who Ryan Butler is or what Vanilla Skate Company happens to be. A quick trip to YouTube to investigate TOTALLY BLEW MY MIND. Warning: if you click play on the video below, you will get sucked into a seemingly inescapable world of freestyle skate dancing, which is apparently a thing people do:

Aside of weirdness: I did a Google search to see if I was the first person to dub Ryan Butler "the Justin Bieber of competitive rollerskating" only to find that the Bieb's best friend is a different guy named Ryan Butler. I'll be hiding under my desk if you need me, because clearly the world is collapsing upon itself.

It's one thing to get something for free because of what you're wearing — I still fondly recall the time that my I Love Hot Moms shirt got me free double meat in my Subway cold cut combo footlong because the sandwich artist told me that 'us moms appreciate that' — but I think I might draw the line at dressing up a certain way solely to get grub at no charge.

For those who disagree, I give you Carl's Jr.

The fast food franchise is giving away a free Amazing Grilled Cheese Burger on July 4 to anyone who is willing to dress up as Spider-Man.

They've even gone so far as to employ Spider-Man creator (and compulsive super hero movie cameo appearance maker) Stan Lee to provide some dos and don'ts regarding one's attire. For instance: no masks, unless you're also planning to rob the place after you get your free burger, and expect to pay if you come as anyone other than Spidey. I wonder if that applies to Venom.

Jason Willis, known to Tucson music fans as a member of bands including the Weird Lovemakers and the Knockout Pills, also makes funny videos. Here is his latest, uncovering a controversy regarding catnip that you might not have been aware of.

Of course this doesn't apply to the fundraising efforts we've posted about here or those of people I know, but I'm pretty sure The Onion is right about all the other Kickstarters.
