There was live music by Vox Urbana, alcoholic and non-alcoholic popsicles in ingenious flavors by the Monsoon Kitchen, people dancing with their dogs, artwork, other things. Linda Ray, the Tucson Weekly listings coordinator, was even there with her handsome dog Gozo. A good time was had by all.
How I made it this far in life without appreciating the magic of cocktails made into popsicles I do not know, but it makes me wonder what the Dinnerware crew will come up with next.
Which is actually the best part. Last night's event was one of the first of many to be held at Dinnerware Artspace, and Aguirre has promised to keep the fun flowing. Imagine how great it'll be when Borderlands Brewing Company opens next door, which is expected to happen sometime in September.
So, thanks Dinnerware Artspace for a fantastic time, and we'll be seeing you again real soon.

Change your address with a move and the coupons are even more seductive, with even bigger discounts. Don’t buy something for a spell and your coupons start coming with a catalog, just to remind you of all sorts of things you never knew existed but suddenly need with a rabid furor that borders on insanity.
This is where things can get a little ugly. The latest Tucson-area catalog is stocked with items that everyone must have in his or her home, workplace, dorm room or yard — which also illustrate the sad state of the American public. If we pretend we are space aliens and base our assessment of the human race solely on items available in a Bed Bath & Beyond catalog, we come to a sad assessment indeed: humans are basically lazy, paranoid, and organized to the point of being anal.

Sure, it would seem a little unfair to ask more from the low-paid employees of area fast food establishments, but my burrito at Los Betos this morning would have definitely tasted better if a synchronized dance routine proceeded my receiving it.

The Takabisha roller coaster, the new $37 million ride at the Fuji Q Highland park, doesn't seem all that frightening based on this video shot from the front row, but then you look at the thing as seen from the ground:
The ride's 141 foot drop and a 121-degree freefall sets a record for being the world's steepest rollercoaster. Possibly related: the park is also chasing a record for most soiled sets of underwear with a square mile.

On July 12, 1937, Bill Cosby came into our world. And ever since, he's been tearing up the TV with hits like I Spy, Fat Albert, and The Cosby Show. Oh, and don't forget his stint as the J-e-l-l-o spokesman. One of my favorite Bill Cosby moments is his tap-dance-showdown with famous tapper, Sandman Simms, on The Cosby Show:
Happy Birthday, Bill. Hope you're taking lots of watermelon jello shots with the kiddos this year:
If you feel like taking a road trip (cool!) to Mesa (sigh), tickets are on sale now for Cosby's appearance at the Mesa Arts Center on March 30th of 2012.

All we got were a bunch of boring tents set up across town and a TV ad starring N*SYNC's Joey Fatone. I feel cheated.

Happy Independence Day from your pals at the Tucson Weekly!
If you're still trying to figure out where to see fireworks tonight, here's the lowdown:
1) The Convention Center: watch the 15th Annual A Mountain Fireworks from Parking Lot B, of the Convention Center. Cost is $5/person.
Or you can start early with a picnic along the Santa Cruz river walk. The paved walkway extends north from 29th Street, starting right next to the Pima Federal Credit Union. Views across the Santa Cruz up to A Mountain should be pretty awesome (thanks for the nod).
2) The Tucson Padres Baseball Stadium: Come watch the Padres play the Reno Aces at 7 p.m., followed by a blowout Star Spangled Spectacular Fireworks Show. For tickets, call 434-1367 or click on "tickets" on the top of the Padre's website or visit the Kino Stadium Box Office.

In case you haven't contributed to the 3.3 million views this video racked up in the week since it was posted, allow me to introduce you to the brazen slapstick irreverence that is "Bike Lanes." Tucson cyclists have horror stories about sharing the streets with aggressive motorists, but evidently, our obstacles pale in comparison to those faced by this New York City man.
