Yesterday President Obama was interrupted by a heckler during his speech on immigration reform in San Francisco. The young man started shouting at the president, "You have a power to stop all deportations." The protester asked the President to use his executive order to stop all deportations to prevent thousands of families from being separated.

Did somebody say sell your personal items to make ends meet?

McDonald's has passed on some terrible financial and health management advice to its underpaid employees, again. Low Pay Is NOT OK captured some screen shots of some words of wisdom from a McDonald's website that's designed to "help" its employees.

You may also want to consider returning some of your unopened purchases that may not seem appealing as they did. Selling some of your unwanted possessions on eBay or Craigslist could bring in some quick cash.

According to a report in Cinema Blend, holy f@ck, Andy Kaufman could be alive or maybe he's still pranking us after all these years:

The story begins at the 9th annual Andy Kaufman Awards, which were held on Monday night at New York's Gotham Comedy Club. While on stage, Michael Kaufman - Andy's brother - began to talk about his sibling's legacy and then revealed that he doesn't actually know if Andy is alive or dead. He then told a story about how back in 1984 he was going through his brother's things and discovered an essay written by Andy about how he would go about faking his own death. The piece said that he would eventually reappear on Christmas Eve 1999 at a particular restaurant, and when that date came Michael went to the place to find out the truth. While Andy was a no-show, that night he was given a letter from a stranger that turned out to be a letter addressed to him from Andy. In the letter the comedy legend explained how he wanted to have a normal life and that "he'd met and fallen in love with a woman and had a daughter, and that he didn't want Michael or anyone to say anything while their own father was still alive."

It’s not every day that I get to talk to a legendary NASCAR driver about whooping cough.

Four-time NASCAR Cup champion Jeff Gordon has teamed up with the March of DimesSounds Of Pertussis campaign to spread the word about the whooping cough epidemic. “When my wife Ingrid and I had our first child, we consulted our doctors and read many books so we can be prepared when she entered our lives. But there was something we forgot to do,” Gordon said in a phone interview.  They consulted with their physician and got the adult TDAP booster after Elaine's birth, so they were fully prepared when their son was born three years later.

“Well, 80% of the time (whooping cough) it’s coming from the adults,” Gordon said. Coincidentally, KVOA reported a whooping cough outbreak this morning in the Vail school district. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), America is experiencing one of the largest outbreaks of reported pertussis cases in approximately 50 years with more than 41,000 reported cases and 18 deaths in 2012. “There have been over 800 reported cases in Arizona alone,” Gordon said.

Maybe a night in jail will do Justin Bieber some good?

BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat reported that the 19 year-old pop star had been charged with "defacing a building or urban monument by graffiti or other means" outside of a hotel in Brazil. Apparently, Bieber had permission from the city to tag a certain area but he decided to draw where he wasn't supposed to avoid his fans.

He posted this picture of himself drawing what looks like one of those "blackface" cartoons.

A video of a women leaving Bieber sound asleep in his hotel went viral this morning.

The only time I was ever suspicious of a Tucson mayor was when I heard Bob Walkup pronounce mariachi. My mother and I cringed, looked each other and tried to enjoy the rest of the Mariachi Festival. But I recognized that Walkup's butchering of the word didn't have much do to with being on crack.

And yes, I'll always be disappointed he never slugged Frank Antenori in the jaw outside Chuy's a few elections seasons ago after being accused of not being a Republican. This was in those early tea-bagging days and right now most of us don't remember what Republicans are supposed to be like and are working hard to remember that Republican friend of the family from long ago who just seemed like a normal person. Whatever happened to that guy?

Members of the UA LGBT Institute want to get the word out about pinkwashing, which they see as a tactic by Israel to deter criticism of the ongoing Israel-Palestinian conflict by highlighting the country's gay-friendly policies.

The "Combating Pinkwashing" workshop is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Fluxx Studio and Gallery, 414 E. Ninth St.

Back in November of last year we did an interview with Gabriel Buelna on his documentary Outlawing Shakespeare, about the fight to save and destroy Tucson Unified School District's Mexican-American studies program.

In the documentary, Buelna interviews many of the local MAS players, as well as some of the other guys up in Maricopa County, like state Attorney General Tom Horne. And he also included activist Dolores Huerta, who is credited by Horne and the other asshats for starting the whole mess just by uttering the phrase, "Republicans hate Latinos."

In our story "Ethnic Studies Myths: It's time to separate fact from fiction regarding TUSD's Mexican-American Studies classes," (Nov, 17, 2011), we mentioned that Huerta's comments were mostly truth and not fiction even though she wasn't thinking about what the crazy crap state lawmakers were doing back then:

Myth No. 1: Republicans love Mexicans.

Around the time when Huerta spoke at Tucson High, a series of bills was being passed by Arizona's Republican-majority Legislature—including earlier versions of SB 1070, border-security bills, a bill requiring employers to use a work-eligibility-verification system, and bills to deny in-state tuition and financial aid to noncitizen students. Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano vetoed most of the bills.

There were also four state ballot proposals that targeted immigrants, including an English-only law, which voters passed. Nationally, a controversial federal immigration-reform proposal led to a series of immigration-related protests across the country, including in Tucson.

Huerta's statement was part of an appeal to students, as she was asking them to look at the legislation and challenging them to start a campaign to address why "Republicans hate Latinos."

This led to the aforementioned speech by Dugan, and the walkout by students, which infuriated Horne. In an open letter in 2007, he wrote that TUSD's program should be terminated. Next, in 2008, he worked with lawmakers on SB 1108, the first anti-ethnic-studies bill. He tried again in 2009 with SB 1069, but both bills failed to become law.

But then Barack Obama was elected president, and Napolitano went with him to Washington, D.C., to head up the Department of Homeland Security. Jan Brewer, Arizona's Republican secretary of state, became governor, and with a Republican majority in the Legislature passing SB 1070 and HB 2281, she signed them into law in 2010.

Truth: When it comes to most Arizona Republicans, Huerta has a gift for stating the obvious.

British comedian, breakout star of Forgetting Sarah Marshall and generally entertaining person Russell Brand made millions of fans on the Internet when he figuratively knocked a well-respected British journalist across the goddamn room with revolutionary rhetoric.

Most impressively, he did so without saying anything new at all.

Brand, who recently did a guest editor stint on the revolution-themed issue of the New Statesman, went toe to toe with BBC Newsnight's Jeremy Paxman in an interview based around one question: Why should anyone listen to the political leanings of a guy who doesn't vote?
