Above: A Quartet for the End of Time as performed by a different set of musicians.

The past few weeks, UA Presents at the University of Arizona has presented a "Classical Music Night" at the Crowder Hall at the School of Music on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

This week is no different. This week will feature 'A Quartet for the End of Time." The backstory of how this musical program was composed is made for the movies.

written while the composer was imprisoned in an internment camp. Premiered with the camp’s German officers seated in the first row, the quartet’s unusual instrumentation resulted from the available musicians among Messiaen’s fellow prisoners.

Rarely heard in live performance, this stunning work will be performed by some of chamber music’s most respected artists.

Tickets are available for purchase online or at the box office.

Morning radio host Jon Justice is a big fan of driving-a-car-around-in-circles guy Dale Earnhardt Jr., so yesterday was a solid day for Jon, as Earnhardt won the rain-delayed Daytona 500. I can imagine Justice posted this video on Youtube, capturing his reaction to the end of the race, for our collective amusement, so here you go.

March Radness is not terribly far off (March 8! Get your tickets now! They're going to get more expensive!), so we're going to give you a taste of what to expect from the stellar lineup of bands here on The Range between now and then.

How often do you get to see one of the "hottest MCs in the game"? Not too often, I imagine, but according to Spin.com, Bay Area producer/rapper Iamsu! (exclamation point his) can count himself in that class and that's even before his first album Sincerely Yours hits stores in April.

However, if you want to get a taste of what he's working on, his most recent tracks have been collected in a digital EP available to stream on Soundcloud:

See Iamsu! and a bunch of equally awesome musical acts (Sir Mix-A-Lot! Pinback! Murs!) on March 8 at March Radness, presented by the Tucson Weekly!

If you have fond memories of shoegazer acts like Slowdive and Lush, you'll be super-into Stargazer Lilies, one of the acts on coolster label Graveface Records. The duo of John Cep and Kim Field, formerly of Soundpool, add a double-drummer attack during their live show, which you'll be able to let wash over you in its breathy etherealness on March 8.

Special bonus tangential connection to Tucson: Stargazer Lilies' new album, "We Are The Dreamers," was produced by Tobacco from Black Moth Super Rainbow, who worked with former Tucsonan Zackey Force Funk on the acclaimed Demon Queen project.

See them and a bunch of bands (Sir Mix-A-Lot! Pinback! Murs!) on March 8 at March Radness, presented by the Tucson Weekly!

Some of you have asked where the infamous "Nine Questions" column has been. We are trying new things and waiting for a response from the readers. Honestly, we have had a couple complaints and I suspect all of them are from Josh Levine. So, I decided to try to breath some new life back in to this dormant section and mix things up.

Aerial photographer and videographer James Glinski sent the Weekly "Song for Rosemont," a music video that's a paean to the beauty of the Rosemont Valley. The mile-wide Rosemont pit mine would be blasted into this pristine wilderness; its waste tailings would be piled as high as small mountains on public lands, blocking the views.

Glinski is the author/photographer of the classic book Above Tucson, Then & Now, from 1995, which paired his own aerial photos of the Tucson valley with images that A.E. "Gene" Magee took from the 1930s to the 1950s.

"In writing that book, I was visually bombarded in what we had and what we lost," Glinski writes to the Weekly. "Thinking on the Green Valley mines, I remember in 1967, then a teenager, heading to Nogales and being revolted the first time I saw those tailings ....and now I am numb to them. Imagine what our experience would be like if there were no mines there, no mountains of tailings, driving through a green river valley from Tucson to Nogales and beyond. What a great ,scenic, historic corridor to live near and travel through....visually lost...

"The proposed Rosemont mine would sacrifice even more, for less. I believe we need to better understand this project, value what we have there, and in the process begin to reform antiquated mining laws."

"The song came from this sense of loss...still with time to preserve what is there. I hope the song conveys that and, with the video, shows the beauty there and what we stand to lose....and to educate and motivate people to defend our public lands."

Guy Gabriels sings lead vocals, Ruben Ruiz plays the guitar break, and Glinski plays instruments and sings, and did the engineering. Rosemont activist Keith Willmarth wrote commentary on the 1872 Mining Law. Videotaping began on Christmas Day.

It's been 25 years since De La Soul debuted their first album: 3 Feet High and Rising. The Long Island rap trio has made their entire catalog available to download for free for the next 25 hours off their website. This is their attempt to reach a younger audience and give back to their fans.

"It's about allowing our fans who have been looking and trying to get a hold of our music to have access to it," De La Soul member Posdnuos tells Rolling Stone. "It's been too long where our fans haven't had access to everything. This is our way of showing them how much we love them."

Apparently, the band has been working on a new album that's behind schedule. But Posdnuos told Rolling Stone the new album is, "coming along amazingly." Click here to sign up for their mailing list and download one or all their albums.

Tickets went on sale for the 15th Annual Gathering of the Juggalos on Friday, with the Insane Clown Posse bringing the event to a 300 acre campground in Kaiser, Missouri, but sadly, because of some up-tight Juggalo-hating neighbors and assorted squares - including some legislator who clearly hates joy - Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope have been forced to make other plans:

However, after we signed the contract and announced the location of the Gathering, some of the people that lived in the surrounding community began to raise hell. Not all of them, mind you, but enough to bring a lot of heat to the owners of the campground. Not only that, they also experienced a media blitz and their phones would not stop ringing. This was no doubt amplified because of the recent lawsuit filed against the FBI by Psychopathic Records and the ACLU for wrongly accusing the Juggalos of being a gang, as well as the reports of last year’s Gathering losing money. Some people in the community where the Gathering was to be held must have believed the nonsense because they kept saying a “gang” was coming to their town and we heard reports that some people were starting to arm themselves. Unbelievable!...There was no way to prepare for how much attention this was going to get and how negatively some people were going to react to the Gathering coming to their town.

One guy overdoses at Drug Bridge last year and now everyone's freaking out. What happened to America, people?

While most of Arizona isn't exactly the best place to hold an outdoor music festival in the summer, there has to be some big open space up north somewhere where we can accommodate the Gathering, right? I don't exactly how you go about taxing the "$1 to See Tits" economy, but there has to be money in it somewhere for our pro-business, pro-freedom state, right? It'd be great for whoever distributes Faygo in Arizona, at very least.

I'm looking at you, Fort Tuthill County Park. Do it for freedom. Do it for family.

We love covers done well, and today's viral video nails it. Miche Braden and her band covered Guns N Roses' Sweet Child O' Mine for Scott Bradley's Post Modern Jukebox. I never seen this in a video description before, but Braden's voice was so powerful "that the room literally shook" at the 3:58 mark. I want to hear more from this band; thankfully, the track is available for purchase on the Twist is the new Twerk album on iTunes.

Their third album comes out on April 8 and 13 days later, punk supergroup OFF! will play Club Congress. Made up of members of Black Flag, Redd Kross, Burning Brides and Rocket From the Crypt, the band was a big deal the minute they played their first show, holding true to the same simple-chorded, single-minded fury that Black Flag was once known for.

No opener announced yet, but in authentically punk style, the show is all ages. See OFF! at Club Congress, April 21 at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $16 in advance, $18 day of show if they last that long.
