Mastiff Odin is one of the many dogs available for adoption on Save the Pets AZ's website.

Tucson-based nonprofit Save the Pets AZ will once again host its Win-A-Flight fundraiser this weekend.

The charity, which aims to save pets at risk of being euthanized in shelters around Tucson, will be giving away a Sunset Airplane ride over Tucson, featuring an experienced pilot and a free bottle of champagne.

Shelter Director Kay Garcia, who is in charge of the fundraiser, calls the event a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for dog and pet lovers.

"It's time to slip the surly bonds of earth and dance the sky on laughter-silvered wings," Garcia quoted poet John Gillespie Magee, Jr. in an email.

Interested? Purchase raffle tickets online at ThePetsAZ.com, with one ticket going for $8, or three for $20.

One winner will be selected this Saturday, May 4, giving one local person the chance to soar amongst the clouds, while supporting animals in-need at the same time.

"Hey friends! My name is Nicco. I am a one and a half-year-old boy who came to HSSA as a stray. I am shy at first but once I warm up I will enjoy chin scratches and I might even chirp at you! I will need a family that will give me plenty of time to adjust to my new home. But I promise I am worth it! I hope I get to meet you and your family soon."

"Could you love an old girl like me? I am a 10-year-old senior dog looking for a forever home. It's harder for old dogs like me to thrive in the shelter setting. I hope I get to move into my new home soon! I would love to meet any dogs that currently live with you!"

Dasher and Dancer and Donner and Blitzen... wait, wait, no. Glitter, Sparkles, Dazzle and Parker are now at the Reid Park Zoo!

The brand new Temple of Tiny Monkeys will be open for the first time on Saturday, April 13.

"For such tiny animals, they have huge personalities," Animal Care Supervisor Alex Zelazo-Kessler said in a release. "They're super active and it is fun to watch their antics and how they interact with each other, as well as their environment and their enrichment."

The tiny monkeys are all squirrel monkeys, with Parker being the only boy. He is also the youngest of the troop, having recently turned two years old.

Squirrel monkeys are some of the tiniest primates, measuring in at about a foot long with another 16 inches of tail. Their long tail is perfect for helping them balance as they use their hands to swing through trees.

"It's really great to bring a treetop level animal into the South America loop at the Zoo," Zelazo-Kessler said. "We have Andean bears, jaguars, capybaras, and South American birds, but we haven't had a canopy-dwelling species from the area in some time. They bring a different aspect of South America to the Zoo."

The Pima Animal Care Center is in need of fosters to help care for an increasing number of animals living in the shelter. Currently, there are about 400 dogs and 100 cats at PACC, and the organization said that number is expected to grow in the coming months.

The clinic has treated 35 pets who have been hit by cars, 223 pets with some type of wound, 68 pets with broken bones, 36 cases of Parvo and 65 cases of Valley Fever so far this year, and needs to make room to prepare for incoming medical cases.

Animals on the mend are in need of a quiet place to recover before they can be adopted, and PACC is looking for people interested in joining the foster program.

PACC is located at 4000 N. Silverbell Road. More information about the program can be found at the shelter, or online here.

The shelter is hosting an adoption fair Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Hall of the Tucson Expo Center, 3750 E. Irvington Road. Admission and parking are free.
