Pima Animal Care Center
on Wed, Dec 12, 2018 at 4:52 PM
Holidays are for family and friends... and pets! But with all the chaos of the season don't forget to take care of those animals in need.
Pima Animal Care Center and No Kill Pima County are teaming up to offer a microchip clinic for the last week of December. The free clinic will help reunite pet owners with lost pets following New Year's.
On average, PACC takes in 470 pets the week after New Year's Eve that are scared from fireworks displays and loud parties. Microchipped pets stand a much better chance of being reunited with their families.
The dates of the clinic are:
• Wed. Dec. 26, noon to 3 p.m.
• Thurs. Dec. 27, noon to 3 p.m.
• Fri., Dec. 28, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Sat., Dec. 29, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Sun., Dec. 30, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Mon., Dec. 31, noon to 3 p.m.
All microchip clinics will take place in PACC’s Community Room.
Along microchipping your pet, PACC recommends making sure they have a collar with up-to-date address and phone number.
The shelter is also running promotions for the holidays. For the 12 days leading up to Dec. 25, all pets over four months old are only $12 to adopt. Then from Dec. 26 to Jan 1. PACC will have "name your own fee" events for pets over four months.
PACC is open noon to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day. On New Year’s Day, PACC will be open at noon and will close at 5:00 p.m.

On Tuesday last week Pima Animal Care Center took in 15 dogs who were surrendered by their owner after she was evicted. Today, PACC accepted 19 cats from another evicted homeowner.
Currently the shelter is caring for more than 600 animals and needs community help to foster or adopt incoming pets.
PACC is the county's only open-admission shelter and never turns away a pet in need, but large influxes of animals put a strain on the already full kennels.
If you would like to help these pets but can't commit to adopting, try fostering a pet. If you are interested in adopting a pet into your family, look online or visit them in person at 4000 N. Silverbell Road. PACC’s normal business hours are Monday through Friday, noon-7 p.m. or 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekends.

The day after stuffing your face with all of the delicacies and deliciousness that come with the Thanksgiving holidays, you may be inclined to show your darker side in the classic American shopping frenzy that is Black Friday.
Why not use Black Friday as an opportunity to make a more positive impact? This Friday contribute to the well-being of shelter animals by giving them a home this holiday season.
On Black Fur Day, the Pima Animal Care Center and the Humane Society of Southern Arizona will be offering adoption and fostering opportunities at discounted rates.
“It would be great to see many of our pets go into loving homes during Black Fur Day. The long weekend will give families time to settle into a routine and spend quality time with their new pets,” said Brandy Burke, HSSA Chief Operations Officer.
At HSSA, adoption fees will be 50 percent off. Pet supplies and HSSA merchandise will also be 30 percent off, with all merchandise proceeds going towards caring for homeless pets.
At PACC, adoption fees for any pet older than four months with black fur will be waived (although a $19 licensing fee will apply to dogs). All other pets’ fees will be reduced by 50 percent. PACC also offers families the opportunity to take a dog out for a day through their daytrips program.
This Black Fur Day, don’t go sniffing for deals anywhere else than where sniffing is done best.
Details for Friday, Nov. 23:
PACC – 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. 4000 N. Silverbell Road.
HSSA – 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. 635 W. Roger Road.

What cuter way to kick of the holiday season than with your pets and Santa?
The Humane Society of Southern Arizona (HSSA) are encouraging well behaved and vaccinated dog and cat owners to visit for Pet Santa Photos on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at HSSA Main Campus on 635 W. Roger Rd.
Come dressed in holiday costumes with your pet or do pet solo photos with Santa! Photos will cost $15 each. All purchases are tax-free and the proceeds will go towards funding in caring for homeless pets at the Humane Society.
"This is one of my favorite events of the year," said Diana Canon, Chief Development Officer. "We bring our dogs each year to get their photo taken with Santa and use it as our Christmas card. It's a great feeling knowing we are supporting the homeless pets at HSSA."
The Humane Society of Southern Arizona has saved over 1 million pets in its 74 years of operation. The shelter takes pets who have serious medical needs and animals who are in need of a home.
