Sloth Squeak! from Lucy Cooke on Vimeo
It's Friday and everyone at Tucson Weekly HQ is gearing up for some Triple A baseball action, so we are enjoying some cute animal videos to get pumped up. Nothing gets us more amped than watching videos of cute animal that might cease to exist.
That's right, Ranger.
This adorable three-toed ball of cuteness is tip-toeing the fine extinction line. According to Evolutionarily Distinct & Globally Endangered, 80% of the sloth population has been lost. Yeah. Stings, don't it?

Dogs do the most darndest things, and the human eye isn't fast enough to capture every charming moment. American photographer and animal trainer Carli Davidson published Shake late last year, but it's new to us. The 144 page book is comprised photos of four legged goofballs in mid-shake, and it's glorious.
Check out a video Davidson put together using a camera that captures 10 frames a second and lights that can illuminate a subject 13,000 times a second:

Batman is legendary. The only thing more memorable than the Caped Crusader is his rogues gallery. Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Rises has inspired Robert K of Robs Rants to produce this hilarious Banecat video. I wish I took my cat back from my ex just so I can dress him up in this outfit.
P.S. No cats were harmed during the making of this short video, according to Rob K.

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona presents Rita and Betsy, 4-month-old, domestic short hair kittens
Rita's reference no: 776404
Betsy's reference no: 776409

Rita and Betsy have been through a lot in their first few months of life. These resilient sisters came to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona after surviving an apartment fire that destroyed their home. Sadly, their family never returned to pick them up. Now that they’re clean and feeling safe again, Rita and Betsy are letting their true colors shine. For being so young, Rita and Betsy are remarkably calm and prefer cuddle time over typical kitten antics. They’re perfectly content to pile into your lap and lounge away the afternoon. These extraordinary youngsters need an extra special home prepared to care for cats with FeLV (feline leukemia virus). If you have any questions, please call the main shelter at (520)321-3704, ext. 173. Rita and Betsy have a 2-for-1 adoption fee and can’t wait to meet you!

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona presents Buster Brown, a 1 1/2-year-old Pit Bull Mix
Reference No.: 756260

Do you like hugs? Buster Brown does! And he could sure use all the hugs you can muster. After surviving horrific abuse, Buster Brown serendipitously jumped into an HSSA employee's car. Although he was bloody and battered, Buster Brown was safe and on his way to a better life. Fast forward to today and Buster Brown is looking great and feeling fine. This peppy pooch eagerly anticipates daily walks, tasty treats and romping around with his favorite dog pals. He’s blissfully happy simply to stretch out on the grass and enjoy a moment in the sun. Although Buster Brown will no doubt make a terrific companion, he does have a few special requests: He needs to go to a home without cats or small dogs, he prefers to be left alone when eating and he needs to live primarily indoors. In return for a little extra care, Buster Brown will be your pride and joy for many years to come. If you could give this deserving darling a place to finally belong, please get to know Buster Brown today at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona! He’s got so much potential and can’t wait to feel safe and appreciated.

What's cuter than Betty White clinging to baby lion cubs? That's what we thought. Good try, though.
The 92-years young actress recently flew out to Tucson after getting a phone call from the Reid Park Zoo director Jason Jacobs. Jacobs became good friends with Betty during his time as the Development and Marketing Director at the Los Angeles Zoo. White couldn't resist coming to Tucson after hearing about the Expedition Tanzania elephant exhibit and the four baby lion cubs. The 36-year-old zoo director says the last time Ms. White visited the Reid Park Zoo was in 1988.
Try not to "squee" too loud while adoring these pictures of Betty White at the Reid Park Zoo:

Here are four reasons why you should stop what you're doing and go to the Reid Park Zoo.The four African lion cubs that were born on December 23 made their public appearance on Thursday, and they are to die for. You can catch Baako, Jelani, Sango, and Nayo frolicing in their exhibit every morning from 9 a.m. to noon.
From the press release:
While on exhibit with Kaya, their mother, the pride may choose to rest behind-the-scenes - so viewing is not guaranteed at all times. For best viewing, visiting early is suggested. Shombay, the father, will be on exhibit each afternoon noon- 4 p.m. This routine will continue until further notice.UPDATE: Unfortunately, the website says one of the cubs is feeling under the weather, so they will not be on exhibit today.

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona presents Dawson, a male, 1 1/2-year-old, Shepherd Mix
Reference No. 749499

Meet the darling of the Humane Society of Southern Arizona! Dawson is an energetic love sponge seeking an active, committed family. Dawson is house trained and has a terrific history with other dogs of all sizes. However, Dawson can be a little too rambunctious for young children and cats. This extremely motivated and bright boy is packed with potential and would likely excel at obedience training, agility, flyball… you name it! Dawson needs an exceptional home prepared to not only train him, but also offer regular veterinary care. Dawson had a mast cell tumor removed from his skin and will need to be closely monitored to make sure new lumps don’t appear. Considering how fantastic Dawson is, it’s a small favor to ask in exchange for his unbeatable friendship! If you could give our enthusiastic rock star the chance to thrive, please ask to meet Dawson at the HSSA to see why he’s an absolute favorite among staff and volunteers!
It can be hard out there as a single person. You made it through the overly sentimental bullshit of Valentine's Day, so that's a plus and maybe you're the kind of person who's fine dancing on your own, but if you're looking for the comforting feel of companionship, the Pima Animal Care Center has a deal for you: a singles-only dog-walk/cat-cuddle event on Sunday, February 23.
Here's the deal...the shelter is closed for deep cleaning that day, so they need to get the animals out for some socialization and fresh air. Animals need love and attention and so do you, so why not make it all happen at once? Meet up in front of the adoption center at 4000 N. Silverbell for some "light refreshments" and let the bonding over a shared interest in animals begin!
The center requests likely attendees email [email protected] to RSVP.
