While this commercial would slightly more authentically weird if it weren't the product of a reality show, it's still quite entertaining. If I had a dead animal around that I wanted to remember in the long-term*, Chuck would definitely be the guy I'd call.

* I don't foresee any situation where there is even the remotest of possibilities of that happening, just for the record.

Dear old Goldie is looking for a family to adore. Found wandering the streets one hot August day, Goldie was fortunate to come across a Good Samaritan willing to offer her safety from the elements. Although her past remains a mystery, Goldie must have been someone’s companion at one point since she was found wearing a collar. Unfortunately, the phone number on her ID tag had long been disconnected. Determined to make a better life for herself, Goldie is now staying positive and making friends fast at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. Easy-going and dignified, Goldie loves going for leisurely morning strolls, enjoying restful afternoon naps and learning new skills in Canine College. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks!? With such a resilient attitude and a constant eagerness to please, it’s easy to see why all of Goldie’s friends describe her as “simply delightful.” Despite the hardships she’s endured during what should have been the best years of her life, Goldie makes the most of everyday and can’t wait to start fresh with you. If you could give this beautiful (inside and out!) girl a place to rest her paws and fill her heart, please visit Goldie soon!

Goldie is currently living at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd. The Humane Society is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Their phone number is 327-6088.

Sure, The Range has featured stuff about animals in the past, but today, we're featuring a new local animal. Unfortunately, it's not an adorable baby tiger, but let's not be ageist. Go to the Reid Park Zoo to check out their new addition. I mean, it's not so hot that you want to die anymore, so being exposed to the elements is now an option again! Thank baby Jesus.

"Sita," a 10-year-old female tiger, went out on exhibit for the very first time this morning. She was calm and confident, and got a lot of attention from Zoo guests and the media. She'll have some time to get comfortable on exhibit by herself, and then we'll make plans to introduce male tiger "Baheem" back to the exhibit, and to Sita. We hope they will hit it off!

It's bad enough for your cat, which probably sits around not doing anything special. Spider-cat should make you, the human, feel inferior. Unless you can climb walls, which you probably can't.

Bones and Cissy have better things to do than pose for a picture! In fact, it’s hard to keep up with these playful siblings when they’re in the middle of a frisky ferret fit — racing around the room, chasing after toys and doing anything to make you laugh. Although they love clowning around in the morning and evening, Bones and Cissy are happy to crash for a long afternoon nap in their tiny hammocks. If you could give these delightfully fun ferrets the love and care they need, please ask to meet Bones and Cissy today at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona!

Cissy - #702848 — 1.5 Years Old — Ferret — Spayed Female

Bones - #702846 — 3 Years Old — Ferret — Neutered Male

These adorable ferrets are currently living at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd. The Humane Society is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Their phone number is 327-6088.

rattlesnakes_doing_it_006.JPG

Oh really Jimmy Boegle? You think it's weird to roll into Tucson Weekly headquarters and find roadrunners getting it on? How about going out to water the tomatoes and finding two rattlesnakes getting busy?

I thought there was only one rattler in the garden until now. We had a ritual where I would water the cucumbers and he or she would slither away to hide under the palm tree. But finding them breeding made me realize I was about to have a snakeopolis on my hands, so I relocated them to the desert, where they continued their love affair.

Snake sex is amazingly beautiful, by the way. They stroke each other with their tails, rattles rattling away, and I think one of them was humming a Barry White song. Seriously though, very beautiful. I know it's a little weird, but I got a bit teary watching them, imagining how far they'd traveled and how hard they looked for each other. And they were so gentle with each other, so very gentle.

After I moved them to the desert they kept getting it on and on.

I definitely wouldn't be thrilled about any event ended with my car smashed into a house, how often do you get to see a bear drive a Prius?

It was 3:30 a.m., and Brian McCarthy was fast asleep when a bear took his 2002 Toyota Prius for a test drive. The Pleasanton man's car had been parked in the driveway of his west Lake Tahoe cabin.

After wedging itself inside the car, the bear became stuck. Frustrated, hungry and mad, it kicked, scratched, bit and tore at the interior of the hybrid, trying to force a way out as easily as it found its way in.

In its behind-the-wheel rampage, the bear ripped open the seats, bit a chunk out of the steering wheel and damaged the Prius' gear box, shifting the car into neutral.

From the safety of the cabin, the awakened family watched helplessly as the commandeered Prius slowly started rolling out of the driveway.

"Our son was the first one who woke up, and he was watching the bear through the window," McCarthy said. "We were looking out of our bedroom window and from our view, you could look down and see the bear in the car, and its arms were just flailing all over the place, through the windows and everything."

For anyone who's a fan of Japanese celebrity cat Maru, it turns out he has a blog!

It includes daily photo essays with poorly-translated gems of weirdly cat-centric commentary like this:

A Photoessay About Maru Grooming.

I guess there's a blog for everything.

Here's my question: since most adorable pet videos come from Japan, are the pets more adorable there or are the Japanese just better at capturing the adorableness? Can we get some research going in this area?
