Listen, I wouldn't recommend that people eat the food products of Pizza Hut, so I'm not sure how I feel about a duckling eating something from there. Is the duckling protected by some sort of inner-duck stomach enzyme? So many unanswered questions.

Speaking of ducklings, if you missed the episode of the FX show Louie entitled "Ducklings" that aired on August 25th, you need to find a way to see it. You'll have to wait until next month to watch it on Hulu, but I don't think you should wait that long. You might forget and then you'd miss out on one of the best single episodes of a television show I've ever seen. Call your friends, maybe someone still has it on their DVR. You need to see that episode.

Okay, It's another cat video—but it's a hilarious, NEW cat video! Via The Hairpin:

The first 30 seconds is where the action is. In the real cat's defense, it must be creepy to confront an identically colored, electronically-purring version of yourself.

While I'm expressed my general confusion about the rise in My Little Pony fandom among seemingly socially adjusted adults, I'm not above wasting time making my very own super-cute pony online. The number of options available (add your own cutie mark!) are truly staggering and the creator still wants to add "about 20 manes and tails and some more accessories". Can you imagine the possibilities? I can't. It's too much for my brain, to be honest.

Related, but not really:

Your friendly blogger has a very important observance to attend to right now*, and while it's possible that some of the other Tucson Weekly staffers will throw blog posts up in the next hour or so, you might just be stuck with these leopard cubs until I get back. However, it's sleeping adorable leopard cubs! Who cares about fresh content when you have these cute little creatures! Enjoy!

* It's nothing as exciting as day drinking. It's actually a conference call.

The Reid Park Zoo has a itty-bitty baby tamandua in the house:

Reid Park Zoo is pleased to announce another significant birth. A tamandua (pronounced tuh-MAN-deh-wah), or lesser anteater, was born on August 10th. Keepers were anticipating the birth as the pregnancy had been confirmed by ultrasound. Keepers discovered the offspring first thing in the morning during regular rounds.

Zoo animal care staff reports that the offspring (sex yet to be determined) is gaining weight and appears to be healthy. The veterinarian is keeping a close eye on this first-time mom and her offspring to make sure they continue to do well. Tamanduas are born weighing less than a pound.

RIP Gracie, who was killed in an Aug. 14 fire.

  • RIP Gracie, who was killed in an Aug. 14 fire.

Crawling away to hide is not an option — at least not for Tucsonan Rodney F. White. He refuses to give up even though his house burned down and he lost much of what he owned. Even though the fire killed his best friend Gracie.

Gracie was a dog, but no ordinary pooch. She was one of those special animals filled with enough spirit and love to even make a woman suffering from Alzheimer’s become playful and lucid when Gracie came to visit.

White, a lifelong photographer and longtime Mesquite Valley Growers employee, got the phone call Sunday morning while he was at work. He was told the cozy home he’s been renting for the past 11 years was on fire with a heat so intense that it blew out all the windows. “It’s bad,” the property manager told him over the phone.

“What about Gracie?” Rodney asked.

“It’s bad,” the manager repeated.

When he rushed back to the midtown abode, the place was still smoldering. Gracie’s body was wrapped in one of his work shirts and placed beneath a mesquite tree. Rodney pulled out the camera he had on him and began to take photos of the fiery wreckage.

“People are looking at me with my camera,” he said. “I told them it was my house and this is what I do.” He’s been hooked on photography since he received a camera for Christmas when he was about 9. The new camera he just bought was destroyed in the fire, as was the original camera that kicked off his passion some 50 years hence.

All of his electronics melted from the heat, but he’s hoping he can salvage his computer’s hard drive to retrieve the photos he recently took for a friend’s wedding. And the hundreds of photos of Gracie.

Scooter_2.JPG

Scooter, a 2-year-old Shar Pei mix, is one fun little dude.

Scooter wants you to scoot on over to the Humane Society! This perfect companion has all the right qualities to become your new best friend. Scooter is an absolute gentleman who is fully housetrained, loves playing with toys and gets along beautifully with other dogs and cats. Surrendered with a heavy heart when his lifelong family had a baby that Scooter was uncomfortable around, Scooter now needs a home without young children. However, he got along great with the 10-year old in the family and would love to meet all of the members of your household in one of our visiting yards. Scooter’s previous family took him through obedience school, visited the dog park several times a week and enjoyed taking their grateful canine companion on walks and hikes. Above all, Scooter simply enjoys being with people. Why not make him your trusty sidekick today?

Here's a video of Scooter playing in the yard.

Come meet Scooter! He's currently living at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd. The Humane Society is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Their phone number is 327-6088.

I like pandas, but my extreme dislike for Lebron James overrides my affection for adorable bears. Nice try, pal, but this phase of the charm offensive fails.

I always assumed that cat videos largely came from people trying to capture the adorable things their own cats are doing, but it turns out it's all so corporate. I'll never look at a kitten trying to get out of a box the same ever again.
