Amazing Amus is a smart and appreciative dog with the joyful innocence of a puppy and the loyalty of an old companion. Although Amus can be a little shy during initial introductions, Amus will eventually curl up right beside you with some gentle coaxing and encouragement. As a current student in Canine College, Amus is learning to be brave around new people, especially children and people in hats, who Amus finds slightly frightening. But, by taking one day at a time, Amus is making terrific progress and now has many people he considers to be his close friends. Amus also has a history with cats and seems to greatly enjoy the company of his kennelmates. If you could offer Amus a comfortable place to call home in exchange for a lifetime supply of pure, uninhibited puppy love, please come down to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona and make a deal with Amus soon!
Here's a video of Amus enjoying the sunshine.
Come meet Amus! He's currently living at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd. The Humane Society is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The phone number is 327-6088.

WARNING: There's a lot of gross stuff in this video, including a cut-open whale, guts and whatnot. That's not even including the extensive discussion of sperm whale sex.
I wouldn't watch this video if were you, mostly because I'm not sure my life is better for knowing that sperm whales have prehensile penises. I only post it because I'd feel better if someone else shared my mental anguish. You do have to admire "whale expert" Joy Reidenberg's enthusiasm for the subject matter, however.
Also, worth noting: one of the most popular search terms leading people to visit TucsonWeekly.com is "big dicks". They don't come much bigger than this, hapless search engine users, do they?

In Thailand, apparently zookeeping cutbacks are forcing the staff to teach the animals to take care of each other. Probably bad for the zoo, but a win for people who enjoy cute animal interactions.

Loosely based on Murphy’s Law for the human universe that tells us anything that can go wrong undoubtedly will, Murphy’s laws for dogs share the same clear-cut philosophy. As with any set of laws, some of the Murphy laws for dogs are broad enough to cover canines across the globe while others have regional variations that stick close to Tucson — literally. Such as the jumping cholla law.
No matter how small or carefully hidden a cactus patch may be, if one exists, the dog will find it. He will not find this aforementioned patch while sniffing softly and treading lightly, either. Said cactus patch will be found while he bolts off to chase a rabbit. The rabbit, of course, is familiar with the patch and hops merrily through the little non-needled nooks and crannies along a tiny, meandering path. The dog, of course, comes back with stickers in his tongue. The said cactus patch will be jumping cholla. The vet will inevitably be closed.

A few weeks ago, we told you about an abused poodle named Franklin who needed surgery after a large gash on his face became infected, leaving his sinus cavity exposed.
According to Franklin's owner, Effie Craven, Tucson Weekly readers alone donated about $800, allowing the poodle to get his surgery.
"Franklin's surgery went great, it was last Tuesday July 12," Craven wrote in an email. "He is healing up nicely and will have his stitches out next week."
She expressed her gratitude to all those who donated.
