Grammy award-winner Juanes performed at the Anselmo Valencia Amphitheater Thursday night for the latest stop on his Loud and Unplugged Tour, playing a great mix of both new songs and deep cuts from earlier in his career.
Opening for Juanes was a new, up-and-coming singer, Raquel Sofia. Sofia, comparable at times to La Mari, of the flamenco-electronic group Chambao, has a great stage presence — her music is certainly worth the time it would take to seek out.
Juanes opened his portion with his classic song "Fíjate Bien." and continued to play a mix of songs from every album including the song "Fotografía" with Sofia joining to sing Nelly Furtado's lyrics. Juanes also sang his own rendition to Bob Marley’s “Could You Be Loved."
His concert was electrifying and overall a great show. If anyone had doubts whether Juanes was losing his edge after releasing his last album P.A.R.C.E., which definitely was not his best work, would be happy to know he hasn't.
Juanes is back and ready to rock out.

On Tuesday, Hotel Congress was buzzing with friends, family and staff as they celebrated Tom "Tiger" Ziegler's 80th birthday. Ziegler has been working at Hotel Congress as a bartender inside the Tap Room for over 54 years. In honor of Ziegler's birthday Hotel Congress renamed the Tap Room as Tiger's Tap Room and gave him a large cake with his namesake on it.
"I am speechless, " said Ziegler. "It's like a dream come true, like you have to pinch yourself to see if it is true."

Famed photographer Eric Kroll, who suggested we go on a photo safari to the Tucson Rodeo yesterday, captured a set of portraits and candids while I snapped action shots. He shared a few with TW. More photos after the jump and more from Kroll at his blog.

It was a delightful Sunday afternoon at Hi Corbett Field as the UA baseball team completed a sweep of its first homestand of the season with a 13-9 win over Coppin State. Among the highlights: Coppin State's inside-the-park grand slam.
The Wildcats are back at Hi Corbett next Friday, Feb. 22.

VII Grand Premium Streetwear and Sneakers opened up today, and as I walked in, I was surprised to find former University of Arizona star and current Minnesota Timberwolves player Derrick Williams holding court behind the counter, signing autographs, posing for pictures and chatting up everyone who asked.
When I was able to get a second with him and mentioned my surprise that he was able to be in town this weekend, he said "it was kind of a last minute thing, but I felt it was important to be here for the opening."
"When I was (at Arizona), I used to have to go back home (to California) if I wanted stuff like this, so I'm glad to have something here," he said. "We have a lot of great brands in here, like The Hundreds and Undefeated...and I want our brand to be one of the big brands in the country. I think we can do it," he said.
The shop doesn't yet have all of its inventory shipped in yet ("A lot of suppliers have just started sending out their spring line," Escalante said. "We had to have a lot of things overnighted for the opening,") but they expect to have gear trickling in over the next week, including gear from Puma, Asics and The Hundreds footwear—they're working to get brands like Nike, Reebok and Adidas on board as well, all in "retro" styles, so look out for that in the future.
