Somehow I doubt this sort of story will make on the air during NBC's coverage of the Summer Olympics in London, but ESPN has put together a remarkably detailed story about sex between athletes during the festivities. Turns out that if you put together a bunch of athletic, good looking young people together, things tend to get a little crazy.

Home to more than 10,000 athletes at the Summer Games and 2,700 at the Winter, the Olympic Village is one of the world's most exclusive clubs. To join, prospective members need only have spectacular talent and — we long assumed — a chaste devotion to the most intense competition of their lives. But the image of a celibate Games began to flicker in '92 when it was reported that the Games' organizers had ordered in prophylactics like pizza. Then, at the 2000 Sydney Games, 70,000 condoms wasn't enough, prompting a second order of 20,000 and a new standing order of 100,000 condoms per Olympics.

Many Olympians, past and present, abide by what Summer Sanders, a swimmer who won two gold medals, a silver and a bronze in Barcelona, calls the second Olympic motto: "What happens in the village stays in the village." Yet if you ask enough active and retired athletes often enough to spill their secrets, the village gates will fly open. It quickly becomes clear that, summer or winter, the games go on long after the medal ceremony. "There's a lot of sex going on," says women's soccer goalkeeper Hope Solo, a gold medalist in 2008. How much sex? "I'd say it's 70 percent to 75 percent of Olympians," offers world-record-holding swimmer Ryan Lochte, who will be in London for his third Games. "Hey, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do."

While it seemed that most Tucson sports fans were sent a little adrift by the back-to-back disappointments of the U of A football and basketball seasons, things are really turning around lately between the NCAA baseball championship and now, FC Tucson making the playoffs in their first season in one of American professional soccer's minor leagues, the PDL. The team needed a tie last night to mathematically guarantee themselves a playoff spot and that's what they got, one point from a 0-0 draw with the Ogden Outlaws. The site and opponent for the conference championship against an opponent from the Northwest Division (I'm hoping for the Kitsap Pumas, just because I like saying their name and look forward to figuring out where Kitsap is via Wikipedia) will be announced at a later date.

FC Tucson, in their first season in the Premier Development League and with their own home field, have been a pleasant surprise spending the season so far either at or near the top of their division. This Saturday night will be a milestone in the team's progress as they take on the Ventura Fusion for first place. It seems like a lot of people are soccer fans during major tournaments like the World Cup or the currently running Euro 2012, but here's an opportunity to cheer on an exciting hometown team in person at the Kino Sports Complex. Tickets are only $12 and based on FC Tucson's most recent games, there will be action up to the very last minute.

I decided this morning that I needed to get over my (I believe to be somewhat justified as a Cleveland sports fan) extreme dislike of LeBron James. First of all, I'm sure he doesn't care. Second, he earned the title last night, somehow dragging a basketball team that used the walking corpse of Mike Miller in key game moments to a 4-1 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Third, he seems to actually have learned some lessons from last year's egomaniacal debacle, telling ESPN that winning a championship was harder than he thought, seemingly expressing some regret for announcing when he signed with Miami that the team would win seven titles.

Then, he tweets the above message this morning, and of course, he should be excited for reaching the pinnacle of his sport, but I realize it's probably more fun for me to think of the guy with a "Chosen One" tattoo as the villain. Feeling shitty at the end of sports seasons comes with the territory as a Cleveland fan, so this isn't all that much different. You still suck, LeBron, and I think I can feel that way while begrudgingly acknowledging your talent and what it took to win the title. Like I've done for decades, I can start looking forward to another likely disappointment (the Indians are still a half game up on the White Sox! The Brandon Weeden era for the Browns!) in another sport.

Oh, you say that LeBron was rapping with LMFAO last night about "haters being quiet"?

Congrats, jackass. Hope you never win another.

UPDATE:

I feel your pain, pal. I get it.

This past year I have recently become a huge baseball fan. I would say it is perfect timing now that the University of Arizona Wildcats are playing extremely well in the College World Series.

The series is being held at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska and the Wildcats are definitely turning a lot of heads. On Sunday, June 17, they moved one step closer to winning the national championship when they defeated UCLA with a 4-0 win. Next, they have a rematch Florida State, who knocked UCLA out of the tournament last night, at 2 pm tomorrow, with the game broadcast on ESPN2 (possibly also online at ESPN3.com) and on the radio at 1290 AM.

Needless to say, I am proud to be a Wildcat and I am excited to what is in store for the rest of the championship!

Read more about the game from Sunday night here and take a look at the bracket. Arizona has to win one of its next two games in order to advance to the final round to win the best-of-three final games.
