The building that once housed the Rhino Pub has been repainted and revamped to make way for a new sports bar and restaurant called Knock Outs Round One Sports Bar and Grill.

Owner Nubia Bernal said today that work on the new joint at 1118 E. Sixth St. is more or less complete, and that the soft opening should take place tomorrow. She expects the grand opening to take place next week.

The name sort of gives it away, but there will be an emphasis on boxing and mixed-martial arts at Knock Outs Round One, although they’ll also be showing NFL, NBA and UA games.

“This place has a complete new identity,” Bernal said. “We are across the street from the UA, and will be catering to that crowd, but we’re also setting it up as a place where people can watch sports with their families.”

For food: Think steaks, hotwings, burgers and other American fare. Bernal also said the ribs she’ll be serving will go toe-to-toe with those served at any barbeque place in town. It sounds relatively affordable as well, with nothing on the menu more than $14.

There's still time to enter Tucson Weekly's first-ever "Show Us Your Pitch" competition, where you can win the chance to throw out the first pitch at Thursday night's Tucson Padres game! Details here.

Speaking of the Padres: Our beloved Triple-A club is in its final homestand at Kino Stadium this week. We've got games through Sunday, Aug. 28, with a whole mess of promotions all week long, including tomorrow's Social Media Night, where you get $1 hot dogs, $2 tickets, $2 beer and 20 percent off at the store—just as long as you say the secret word you'll find on the T-Pads' Facebook page. On Thursday, beers and sodas are just a buck and on Saturday, they'll be shooting off fireworks after the game. Details on tickets, times and whatnot here.

Head’s up, sports fans! Ever wanted to throw out the first pitch at a Tucson Padres game? Hopefully, you'll fare a little better than Mariah Carey does above, but regardless, the Tucson Weekly will award one lucky reader the chance to do just that at the final Thirsty Thursday of the season—and all you have to do is dazzle us with your mad throwing skills!

That’s right: You can be on the mound at Kino Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 25 if you’re the winner of our first-ever “Show Us The Pitch” Contest.

Here’s how it works: You make a short video of yourself throwing something as a demonstration of your technique and send it to [email protected]. Our judges will review your video and pick one fan to throw out the pitch on Thursday.

The winner will also get four Home Plate Reserved Seats (a $42 value!). Second place will get two Dugout Reserved seats (worth $17, so still pretty cool).

We'll be judging the videos based on largely absurd and arbitrary standards, but basically, we're looking to be entertained. It's YouTube. We could be watching a monkey riding a dog herding sheep. Your video needs to be fun in some manner, whether you're throwing something interesting, throwing somewhere interesting, wearing a costume of some sort, or by adding high quality production values and an original song by power rock band Europe playing in the background. Get out your phone and shoot something. Get creative, for the sake of us who have to watch these things.

A few rules:

Entries must be received by noon on Wednesday, Aug. 24.

All entries become property of Tucson Weekly and Wick Communications and may be used for promotional purposes.

No throwing of any animals, whether cats or snails. Be kind to your fellow living creatures. (No throwing of anything at living animals, either.) I feel like we shouldn't have to say it, but don't throw a baby.

The judges’ decision will be final.

Good luck!

Frustrated that the City of Tucson banned bikes from skate parks wouldn't build a one for BMX bikes, a local man built his own indoor park for the bike community. Check it out.

The city officially responds to a report about improving the the safety of the multimillion dollar Fourth Avenue, Toole Avenue and Congress Street intersection that doesn't really seem to work for anyone. See what they have planned to fix it.

There were 62 photos entered into the Tucson Velo photo contest. You can help determine the winner! Check out the photos and pick your three favorites.

While I think dodgeball has always been 3-D (even in the normal school yard version, it's not like you're rolling the ball, after all), any excuse for adults to jump on trampolines is one I'll gladly take.

Mostly, this version of dodgeball reminds me of Slamball, which was on TV for a little while, which I don't nearly have the athletic talent to play. Throwing a ball and falling down on a bouncy surface? Totally do-able. Jumping up in the air and trying to slam a basketball? Nope, not going to happen:

Although it would appear Boris Said hasn't had a stellar career in NASCAR, the guy has a great name, he won the 24 Hours of Daytona twice, his father was an Olympic bobsledder, and he turns a post-race interview in a professional wrestling promo. Someone with a camera should just follow this guy around. That would be a reality show I'd watch.

I like pandas, but my extreme dislike for Lebron James overrides my affection for adorable bears. Nice try, pal, but this phase of the charm offensive fails.
