Not only has rapper Mac Lethal racked up over a million views with his pancake-themed take on Chris Brown's "Look at Me Now" in one day, he's also managed to launch one of the funniest novelty Tumblr sites ever with Texts From Bennett, a wildly profane recap of (apparently real) text messages Mr. Lethal receives from his 17 year old cousin. There's talk online that the texts are faked, but I'll probably forget about the whole thing before it's exposed as a fraud, so what difference does it make?:

While this is only available for Google Maps on Android for now, the mapping of indoor spaces makes a lot of sense. I know how to get to the mall, but I often forget which level the Cinnabon is on. Not the Cinnabon by the food court; the employees there are stingy with the icing. The other Cinnabon, over by the Limited.*

More seriously, however, the demo video shows a map of an IKEA. That's actually helpful, since those places are more difficult to navigate than a corn maze. Go in for a box of cheap highball glasses and all of a sudden you're lying down on a demo couch trying to re-discover your will to live.

* I don't know if this actually applies to any mall in town. I just always like to know where the nearest Cinnabon is.

As a dedicated iPhone user I can't really co-sign the sentiments of this track from former Tucsonan and overall nice guy Ciphurphace, but it's still a fun take on the LL Cool J classic "I Can't Live Without My Radio".

BONUS FOOTAGE! Ciphurphace's daughter/hypewoman helping him on one of the verses:

In this week's Weekly Wide Web, I briefly mentioned the Protect IP Act and the Stop Online Piracy Act and how they threaten the very nature of the internet as we know it. If you prefer moving images and the sound of human voices to letters on a screen or a page, here's a video by Kirby Ferguson of Everything is a Remix that explains what's wrong with these bills.

I generally feel conflicted over ultra-violent, largely anti-social video games like the Grand Theft Auto series. I played Vice City until my thumbs hurt, and really enjoyed San Andreas for awhile until beating up virtual hookers for cash started wearing on me, and haven't gone back to the series since, but the trailer for GTA V, which brings the series back to the fictionalized California of San Andreas, looks amazing and seems to bring the series into our modern, economically depressed world. The question is whether I'd like to experience what's probably a breakthrough in gaming technology, but end up mildly depressed in the process. I might just end up sticking to smashing Koopas, but the allure of this game could be hard to resist.

I didn't even think of how manipulative I could be with people through text messages...yesterday, I was so naïve. Thankfully, today the Wall Street Journal has provided a helpful guide for the modern narcissist who wants to craftily navigate personal relationships in the most craven, miserable way possible via their cell phone.

Justine Campbell, 23, an Internet marketing specialist from White Plains, N.Y., sometimes sends texts in which she fibs in order to weed out the guys who are just on the make.

Here's how it works: She pretends to be drunk—she does this on a Friday or Saturday night. She then texts a guy saying something honest ("I really like hanging out with you") and makes sure to include spelling errors and mention her drunken state. If the guy responds nicely to what she said ("I like you, too. Why don't we talk tomorrow?"), she considers him worth a date. If he writes back something inappropriate, he's history.

"It works because people try to use your drunken state to pry the truth out of you," she says. "Little do they know I'm prying the truth out of them."

Coming up with mean things to say people on the internet can be a challenge, so thankfully someone has taken some of the work out of the process. If you've ever waded into the comment section below any popular YouTube video, you know that society is crumbling right at those virtual outposts, so where better to pull something nasty to say semi-anonymously online? Adrian Holovaty developed an intended-to-be-humorous online script that pulls insults from YouTube comments via keyword searches, and while it only works approximately 50% of the time (nothing comes up for the search term "Antenori", believe it or not), typing in semi-random words and phrases does provide at least minutes of entertainment. "You had your toes stepped on by hoes." Zing!

While it seems like there's a new app to rate something or other every day, what I really need is one app where I can rate everything, so I can delete the rest. Bring me Jotly! The name ends in -ly, so it must be great!

Apple has announced that Steve Jobs died today, after a struggle with pancreatic cancer:

We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.

Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives.

The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.

Albert Brooks might have put it best, via Twitter:

The Japanese are amazing, but couldn't they program this robot to keep on going past the Subway to get something actually edible? Seems like there are still some bugs to work out.
