You'll see some familiar faces when Neko Case performs on Conan tonight: Calexico's Joey Burns will be playing cello while Jacob Valenzuela and Michael Carbajal are busting out their trumpets.
Much of Neko's latest release, The Worse Things Get, the Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You, was recorded right here in Tucson at Craig Schumacher's Wavelab studio. Pitchfork's assessment:
And that’s the most impressive thing about The Worse Things Get: though it’s a record that looks at topics like depression and parental neglect square in the teeth, its overall tone is one of resilience. The penultimate track, "Where Did I Leave That Fire" begins with a sparse, post-rock arrangement but eventually gathers into a triumphant and surprisingly comic midtempo ballad about mojo returned. But the true victory lap is "Ragtime", a rousing blast of "Crimson and Clover"-esque pop that serves up hard-won hope and plenty of mantras for carrying on. "I’ll reveal myself invincible soon," Case sings, as a parade’s worth of brass swells around her in agreement.Somehow, The Worse Things Get is Case’s tightest record and also her strangest. With its off-kilter arrangements and eccentric turns of phrase, it’s a world unto itself. If it has any contemporaries, they’re records like Fiona Apple’s The Idler Wheel… or Cat Power’s Sun— the works of artists for whom “maturity” has not meant putting out that fire that Case sings so evocatively about chasing.
Neko performs at the Rialto Theatre on April 12.
It's hard to believe, but there was a lot of action off the field after the Super Bowl ended. A 9/11 conspiracy theorist some how made it through security and interrupted Seattle Seahawk's MVP Malcom Smith's post game interview to tell the viewers of ESPN2 that the 9/11 terrorist attack was an inside job by our government.
“Investigate 9/11 — 9/11 was perpetrated by people within our own government,” Matthew Mills said onair right before he ran off camera and arrested, according to New Jersey On-Line.
The truther was identified as Matthew Mills, a 30-year-old from Brooklyn, New Jersey State Police Capt. Stephen Jones told NJ.com. He was arrested for trespassing,.

Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers performed during the 48th Super Bowl Half Time show on Sunday. A good, nameless children's choir opened with Travie McCoy's Billionaire (featuring Mars) before Mars' drum solo that lead to his 2010 hit Locked Out of Heaven. It was great to see the Chili Peppers come out of retirement to perform Give It Away. But I'm really disappointed that there wasn't any twerking or Janet Jackson nip slips.

Sometimes it seems like reality television is trying to do some good while absorbing all of your time and money. Anthony Melchiorri, host of The Travel Channel's Hotel Impossible Undercover, went to the oldest guest ranch in Dragoon, Ariz., The Triangle T Guest Ranch. The episode aired two years ago, but now the picky hotel fixer is back for another half-hour follow-up special to make sure his efforts weren't in vain.
The episode will air on Monday, January 13 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on the Travel Channel.

Last week Netflix pull a ton of movies and television shows due to licensing deals expiring with some major film companies. I shared a list of content that was going to vanish from the Netflix digital streaming library, and some Netflix subscribers weren't happy about the news. Fortunately, a Reddit user created a new list of movies and television shows there were added on Wednesday.
Over 1,000 movies and shows were added, but Big Trouble in Little China and Zombie Ass: Toilet of the Dead are my top picks.
Here are a list of 70 new additions thanks to Cinemaphreak & Gothamist below the break:

One of the best cartoons and female superhero teams since Josie and The Pussy Cats are back. Cartoon Network is resurrecting the Powerpuff Girls with an all new look and animation style. The cast contains all the original voice actors, but the only new addition is legendary drummer Ringo Starr.

Now, this is a story all about how Will Smith, Jazzy Jeff and Alfonso Ribeiro (AKA Carlton) reunited for a special moment on the UK’s Graham Norton Show. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air aired its final episode 17 years ago this week. The video starts off with Will and Jaden doing some freestyle, and then Will brings out Jazzy Jeff from the shadows. Literally. Will performs a nostalgic Fresh Prince of Bel-Air sing along (I'm surprised I still remember the words) then Riberio jumps in and everyone starts doing the "Carlton."
This video makes me want to go to Bookmans and buy the entire Fresh Prince DVD collection because I don't have Netflix. The best part is when the camera pans over to Heather Graham and Bradley Cooper awkwardly dancing in the background. I can't wait to see their moves in American Hustle.

Building off of our earlier news that a few Kardashians (probably Kourtney Kardashian and her baby-daddy Scott Disick) are invading the Meet Rack tonight, we have confirmation from our sources at the Meet Rack that producers from the hit "reality" show would like to stop by.
"What it came down to is that, last night, they came in and said 'Do you want to do a thing here? Sign here,'" Meet Rack owner Jim "God" Anderson said.
"Of course, I don't watch television, I don't have a cell phone, I don't have a computer, I don't have any of that stuff, but it was sort of like when Billy Gibbons came into my bar, everyone started jumping up and down, and I didn't know who he was," Anderson said.
In other words, he doesn't quite care, he's in it for the screen time.
Anderson tells The Range his favorite thing in the world is to have his picture taken (check the walls of his bar for proof), followed closely by gambling and sex, of course. What better for a hedonistic, self-loving, degenerate than 15 to 20 minutes of fame on cable TV?
