Now that the Super Bowl is over, we can focus on our real national pastime: discussing the ads. Thankfully, Buzzfeed has collected all the commercials in one place, from the E*Trade baby ad that won't go away to the Sketchers ad above, which while filmed at Tucson Greyhound Park manages to not look like Tucson at all.

Every time I'm about to start a promising new dramatic series, the following cycle begins anew:

1. I ponder whether or not my wife will enjoy the show. With a show like Walking Dead, there's no question she will want nothing to do with it. Something like Boardwalk Empire or Game of Thrones, however, is less clearcut, and in those situations, I'll try and get away with watching on my own until she sees me hunched over my computer screen and says, "Hey! I thought we were going to watch that together!"

2. We watch the show together.

3. At some point, she drops out. I can tell this is coming because she'll begin to waffle. If she hesitates even the slightest bit when I ask if she's up for another episode, she's fading.

4. I watch the rest of the series alone.

Slate's Dahlia Lithwick thinks Stephen Colbert has done an admirable job of focusing attention on the spending machines known as Super PACS:

When President Obama criticized Citizens United two years ago in his State of the Union address, at least three justices came back at him with pitchforks and shovels. In the end, most court watchers scored it a draw. But when a comedian with a huge national platform started ridiculing the court last summer, the stakes changed completely. This is no pointy-headed deconstruction unspooling on the legal blogs. Colbert has spent the past few months making every part of Justice Anthony Kennedy’s majority opinion in Citizen United look utterly ridiculous. And the court, which has no access to cameras (by its own choosing), no press arm, and no discernible comedic powers, has had to stand by and take it on the chin.

I had no idea that they did these 30 Rock animated webisodes, but anytime you can get Donald Glover, Ryan Adams and Michael McDonald together, I'm in.

Game Change:
Ed Harris appears to be a good McCain and Julianne Moore looks truly great as Sarah, at least in the trailer. Who's turning in?

I can't even say how sad I was today to hear that Don Cornelius died, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, in his Sherman Oaks home. As a kid growing up here in Tucson, the show was a glimpse in a world almost entirely foreign to me, giving me a new favorite song on a weekly basis. Seeing Chuck Mangione in 1981 wasn't quite as exciting as some of the episodes from the show's golden age in the 70's, but I don't know where else I would have heard groups like Shalamar, Ready For The World, The System and all the 80's R&B tracks that I still love. In recent years, the cable channel Centric has been showing repeats of classic episodes and it's just a wonderful glimpse in youth culture of that era, between the outfits, hairstyles and dance moves I couldn't replicate if I tried. I have no idea what was going on in Cornelius' head lately that he would feel the need to end his life, but mostly I'm just sorry he had to go through whatever pushed him to that edge. He was an actual legend, bringing great music into the living rooms of kids across America, and my childhood was far better for taking a weekly ride on the Soul Train.

Don Cornelius was 75.

KGUN is reporting that chief meteorologist Erin Christiansen has contracted Valley Fever. The ailment has sidelined her of late and KGUN management expects her to remain off television for at least another week. According to a statement, Christiansen is undergoing treatment and the prognosis is good.

In the interim, Aaron Brackett has been filling in. Brackett will transition to mornings starting next week and April Madison will handle the evening weather reports until Christiansen returns. Jessica Chapin will take care of weather updates during weekend newscasts.
