You have a little over two weeks left to vote in our Best of Tucson balloting for 2013 (wait, it's 2013, what the hell?). Voting ends on May 31 at midnight, so why not spare yourself the last-minute panic of filling out a ballot at the end of the month and take care of business today?

We've had a great response so far, but as there are nearly a million people in the greater Tucson area and we're still significantly short of that number of submitted ballots, it would appear some of you have not yet voted in our Best of Tucson poll for 2013. Let us know your favorite places, people, restaurants, events, etc. and then see how the city voted as a whole on September 26. Voting runs until May 31st, but why not just get it done now before you forget or the world ends. After this week, either seems equally plausible.

The incredible run of Lisa Frank comes to an end as she loses to Richard Carmona by ten percentage points, but Janos Wilder continues to dominate our Celebrity Showdown, taking out Savannah Guthrie by over 300 votes. So now we're down to four: Amanda Beard vs. Janos and Gabrielle Giffords vs. Richard Carmona. Vote now to determine our Showdown finalists.

Our two-month-ish extravaganza of Best of Tucson voting begins now, as the ballot for the 2013 edition is online.

There's a nice moment for us to enjoy here at the Weekly when the ballot goes out, when the process seems so pure and idealistic, before we gather the results and put out the issue on September 26 and the complaints roll in. For now, there's a blank survey full of possibilities, before some clowns vote for Taco Bell in the Best Mexican Fast Food category.

Voting lasts until May 31 at midnight. Don't disappoint me here, Tucson.

AZ Weekly is a free, Phoenix-based magazine that covers exactly what you'd expect: Phoenix events. Which, as I'm sure you're thinking, is exactly what denizens of Southern Arizona can't get enough of.

Furthermore, as Tucson Weekly editor Dan Gibson mentions in this week's "Editor's Note," AZ Weekly whores out their editorial coverage to the highest bidder—so if you're looking for objective entertainment coverage, you might want to take their articles with a grain of salt.

So what this means for you, the loyal Tucson Weekly reader, is that it might be just a bit harder for you to get your weekly, dead-tree fix of "Danehy," "The Skinny" and "Ask a Mexican!" But we've got a solution:

Still, that leaves us the little matter of our issue with Circle K...and honestly, we figure we're not the only people in town who have issues with the corner store chain.

The lovely, talented, remarkably patient folks who keep track of our listings were, sorry to say, pushed to the brink yesterday as a result of the issues we had with our email switch-over yesterday. Apparently, the [email protected] email had been completely inactive for nearly 24 hours, until roughly two hours ago.

So, on behalf of our listings coordinator, we invite each and everyone one of you folks to re-submit your events that may have bounced back to you. Apparently, they're getting quite bored over there, and need something to do.

Also, now would probably be a good time to note that, email-wise, we're running full capacity now, Weekly-wide. The long emergency is over, folks.

Just a heads-up from all of us here at Tucson Weekly: We've been undergoing a major changeover regarding our email system at Weekly World Central, so if your emails have been bouncing back from any of us, that's why. Trust us, it's not because we're trying to avoid your praise/press releases/complaints about the movie listings/complaints about the cover. We're working through it, and everything should be back to normal shortly.

As alluded to in the headline, we're going to be taking it easy today and tomorrow, enjoying time with our family and friends. We'll be back, full-force on Wednesday.

The replacement for current Tucson Weekly editor Jimmy Boegle has been announced, and his name might be familiar to Weekly readers: Dan Gibson, former web producer for Tucson Weekly and Weekly sister paper Inside Tucson Business.

Dan Gibson, former web producer at Territorial Newspapers, will take over as editor of the Tucson Weekly on Jan. 1, publisher Tom Lee announced on Monday (Nov. 26).

“Dan’s background in alternative newsweeklies and how they relate to website development and social media makes him the logical choice for the position,” Lee said.

Gibson will join the staff immediately after resigning his most recent position as digital content director at Clear Channel Radio in Tucson. He will work with editor Jimmy Boegle, who is leaving the position to launch a website in Palm Springs.

Gibson was the web producer for the Weekly and sister paper Inside Tucson Business from October 2010 to August 2012, doubling the Weekly’s daily web traffic during his time in the position. This year, while he oversaw the publication’s digital content, the Weekly won both a Local Media Association Best Web Initiatives award and a second place prize from the Arizona Newspaper Association for Best Newspaper Website. Earlier this year, he was named an Association of Alternative Newsmedia Next Generation Scholarship winner.

Just a heads-up, folks:

We're going to be taking things a bit slow today, what with the food to feast upon and the football to watch in near-vegetative states, but you'll be hearing from us a bit throughout the day.
