A Lot Like Love

This month’s sweetie pie offering casts Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet as two pals who start their friendship by screwing on an airplane shortly after meeting each other. The movie then follows them through seven years as the two go through various relationships and travails while always coming back to each other. They also go through several hairstyles (Kutcher starts off with major bang action, while Peet is stricken with some strange goth wig) and fashions that look more like 15 years old rather than seven. The proceedings are cute enough, but not substantial enough to make this a good movie. Peet is still looking for that movie that will establish herself as a star, and Kutcher continues to be likeable in movies that just aren’t very good. It feels like a whole lot of other movies, without ever distinguishing itself as something special.
