Abduction

There was a time, some 20 years ago, when John Singleton had promise as a filmmaker. His debut was the earth-shattering Boyz n the Hood, for which Singleton became the youngest Oscar-nominated director ever. Since then, Singleton has taken just about every job someone will pay him for—Four Brothers, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and now Abduction, a Jason Bourne-like affair for teens starring Twilight’s Jacob, Taylor Lautner. He plays a high school kid who discovers he was a missing child, that his parents aren’t his real parents, and that it’s all some big government secret. That’s a lot to absorb all at once, which may explain Lautner’s dazed look throughout the film. That, or he’s just an atrocious actor. The film exists to capitalize on Lautner’s abs, presumably. It doesn’t offer much else.
