And So It Goes

The title And So It Goes could be meaningless. It could also be a sly nod to Kurt Vonnegut’s famous use of the phrase to reference death, but let’s not give this film that much credit. If ever there was a movie that meandered in the crosswalk while drivers waited impatiently to turn right, it’s this one. Directed by Rob Reiner and starring Michael Douglas as the only character Douglas has played in 20 years (old rich guy with woman problems), And So It Goes puts two characters on a collision course toward love. Oren (Douglas) and Leah (Diane Keaton) are both widowed and both slowly come around again to the idea of relationships. Would that it were the 1980s, and roles were still being written for these two terrific performers. That would be a movie to see. This one, for a variety of reasons, simply is not.
