Baadasssss!

Director/writer/star Mario Van Peebles tells the story of the time his father, Melvin, starred in, wrote and directed Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song. It’s both historically interesting (Sweetback essentially started independent black cinema) and dramatically gripping. Baadasssss! gives a close-up zoom on the weird world of Hollywood in the ’70s, a time of sex, drugs, sex, filmmaking and the occasionally bout of sex.
