In traditional Michael Bay directing style,
the gun-toting testosterone-filled action
takes precedence over a substantial plot, and
in this 1995 film the twisted sense of
priorities actually works. When two macho
Miami police detectives (Martin Lawrence and
Will Smith) are assigned to capture the thief
in a multi-million dollar heroin heist, they
get caught in some murderous mayhem and swap
identities in order to prime the bloodshed's
only eyewitness. Blah, blah, blah. The
high-speed car chases, the budget-breaking
explosions and Smith's scene-stealing sex
appeal make up for the stale switcheroo humor
and convoluted premise.
