From the Son of God to the son of some
guy, Jim Caviezel has run the gamut of
acting roles recently. However, his latest
performance took no stroke of genius.
Caviezel portrays Bobby Jones, the
greatest golf player of all time in the
dullest film of all time. As scenes
lethargically jump from one tournament
victory to another on golf courses that all
look the same, viewers learn nothing
about the sport from the films team of
writers, and very little about the man
himself from the emotionally closed-off
Caviezel. On the other hand, viewers do
learn that occasional, watered-down
words of wisdom can constitute a script
these days, while lame attempts at
conflict and intrigue include rain-soaked
golf games. Despite the inept cast and
crew, there is one filmmaker that did use
a stroke of genius: Composer James
Horners compassionate and compelling
score drives in a hole-in-one.
