Boynton Beach Club

This is almost exactly the kind of movie I wouldn’t go to see: a touching story about a group of senior citizens who come together at a bereavement meeting. Each has lost a spouse or child, and each slowly finds his or her way back to love and friendship. Strangely, Boynton Beach Club is also pretty entertaining and only occasionally too sweet. It’s definitely aimed at a post-retirement audience, and I think it will do well with that crowd. Dyan Cannon and Brenda Vaccaro give strong performances, and other than the excessive use of cloying woodwinds, the film manages to steer the course between bathos and painful heartwarmingness.
