A truly interesting experimental film that suffers only from a meandering plot. Conjoined twins are plucked from obscurity in 1975 by a degenerate music promoter who turns them into the first freak pop act. The brothers, though taken in by the rock lifestyle of drugs, sex, drugs, violence, music, drugs and drugs, also manage to rebel against their handlers and themselves, no mean feat when joined by a ribbon of flesh. Brothers is an odd mockumentary, featuring two films within a film, perfect evocations of the mid-70s, and layers and layers of mystery and artful self-reference. Not for those seeking happy endings or good vibes, Brothers is a powerful look at the fleshy ties that bind and destroy and then decompose and then return in an endless series of retrospectives and made-for-TV specials.
