Coffee and Cigarettes

I found this a grueling exercise in self-indulgence: a series of unrelated scenes featuring stars drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. While this could have worked if there was anything like a script or an interesting visual composition or, I don’t know, a few good jokes, as it stands, it’s just People magazine in black and white. If you think looking at celebrities as they struggle to find something interesting to say is a good time, by all means, check this out. If you’d rather not watch what looks like a film- school exercise repeated ad nauseam, then stay home. I’m sure director Jim Jarmusch will come up with something better for his next film, and you don’t want to spoil that experience with this stale brew.
