Annoying characters and gross-out shenanigans make Diary of a Wimpy Kid a film to avoid. Zachary Gordon stars as Greg Heffley, a 12 year-old going through his first year of middle school. Along with his best friend, Rowley (Robert Capron), he tries to become popular with a series of schemes that continually fail. A few of his ideas get him into trouble, and eventually, Rowley abandons him. Greg jots down all of these misadventures in his diary, like a younger, less-funny Bridget Jones. The movie fails by not only making Greg completely unlikable (he’s one insecure, selfish brat), but also by including every single bodily function joke imaginable. Even the awesome Chloë Grace Moretz, of Kick-Ass and (500) Days of Summer, in a small supporting role, can’t help make it work. Do you and your kids a favor, and skip this one.
