Donnie Darko: Director's Cut

This film, originally released in a shorter version in 2001, gets its Tucson premiere in this new, 133-minute version. While I’m generally in favor of making movies shorter, Donnie Darko does fine at this length. It’s a weird and engaging story of a troubled teen who believes he is receiving messages from the future. Strangely, those messages are delivered by a one-eyed man in a giant bunny suit. Well, that’s only strange if you’ve never seen Harvey after ingesting, like, a kilo of rotten peyote buds and a half gallon of Pabst Blue Ribbon. And if you’ve done that, then you’ve seen and enjoyed Donnie Darko already. If not, buckle up and take the ride the cinematic way: Not only is Donnie Darko already considered a cult classic; it’s also more fun than most pharmaceutically enhanced experiences.

Donnie Darko: Director's Cut is not showing in any theaters in the area.
